Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How long after Collingwood's 1990 premiership triumph did champion wingman Darren Millane die in a car accident?

Answer: One year, one day

Although Millane's tragic death prevented him from captaining his beloved Magpies, he did get to captain VFA Dandenong at the incredibly young age of 18.
2. Where did Geelong legend Gary Ablett begin his career?

Answer: Hawthorn

Hawthorn great Leigh Matthews once said it was difficult to recognise the Ablett of Geelong compared to the Ablett of Hawthorn. Whilst at Hawthorn he was small and light, but soon after arriving at Geelong he developed the imposing figure most remember him with, along with the trademark moustache.
3. Which member of Hawthorn's 1989 premiership team was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 2003?

Answer: John Platten

Johnny Platten indeed was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2003, still sporting the long curls that earned him the nickname, 'The Rat'. In 1987, the Brownlow Medal turned to be a 'festival of fours', with Platten (no. 44) and St. Kilda champ Tony Lockett (no. 4) sharing the honours.
4. Whose nose did Tony Lockett smash with his elbow at the SCG?

Answer: Peter Caven

Lockett earned himself a 16 week suspension for 'caving in' Caven's face. However Caven was out for a lot longer. The hapless Swan ended his career some years later as an Adelaide Crow.
5. Which of these players came close to equalling Fred Fanning's long standing goals record, kicking 17 against Richmond at Waverley Park?

Answer: Jason Dunstall

Dunstall also was the third player in history to crack the magical 1000 goals barrier, following 'Plugger' Lockett and Collingwood icon Gordon 'Nuts' Coventry.
