Answer: Lindsey Vonn

Lindsey Vonn is one of the most famous athletes and skiers in the United States. She won dozens of World Cup titles in various alpine skiing events, although the Downhill is considered her best event. She was taught to ski by her grandfather, to whom she dedicated her 2018 races at the Winter Olympics. In addition to her downhill gold medal win at the 2010 Olympics, Vonn also won bronze in 2010 in the Super-G and bronze in the downhill in 2018. She has won at least two golds in each of the five alpine skiing disciplines at the World Cup.

Vonn is also known for her personal life. She was the target of paparazzi during her romance to Tiger Woods. She is also considered a sex symbol, having appeared several time in "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition".

Aksel Lund Svindal won the gold medal in the Super-G at the 2010 Winter Olympics and in the Downhill event at the 2018 Olympics. When he won his second gold medal, he became the oldest person to win an alpine skiing gold medal in Olympics history. Although he has faced rough patches in his Olympic career, Svindal has dominated the World Championship and World Cup events, having won several golds at each tournament in various disciplines.

Mikaela Shiffrin is known for her dominance in the slalom and giant slalom events. She became the youngest slalom Olympic champion in 2014 and one of the youngest skiing Olympic champions in any discipline. She won the slalom event at the World Championships in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Her failure to medal in the event at the 2018 Winter Olympics was considered an upset. Shiffrin is known for being very nervous before events to the point that she has become physically ill before races.

Austrian skier Matthias Mayer is the son of Olympic silver medalist skier Helmut Mayer. Both Mayers are alpine skiers. Matthias won Olympic gold in the Downhill in 2014 and in the Super-G, his father's event, in 2018. During the 2018 Combined event at the Winter Olympics, Mayer famously crashed on the slalom course and into a television camera man and other onlookers.

Bode Miller is one of the most famous male American skiers of all time. He is often seen as the male equivalent to Lindsey Vonn. Prior to his retirement in 2015, Miller won 33 total World Cup gold medals, including at least five golds in each of the five disciplines.

Despite that prowess, he only won one Olympic gold medal in the Super Combined in 2010. Since his retirement, Miller has become a skiing commentator.

Alberto Tomba is an Italian alpine skier often called "Tomba la Bomba" which translates to "Tomba the Bomb". Although he competed in many discplines, Tomba was a specialist in the slalom and giant slalom events. Tomba was considered more muscular and less agile than his rivals in the 1980s.

This gave him more power and increased his speed but made it harder for him on the turns. Tomba carried the Olympic Torch into the stadium when Torino hosted the Winter Olympics in 2006.

Anja Parson is a Swedish alpine skier who won six Olympic medals including one gold in the slalom in 2006 and seven gold medals in the World Championship. Since her retirement, Parson has become a sports commentator SVT in Sweden.

Jean-Claude Killy is considered a pioneer in the sport of Alpine skiing. He is considered the sport's first superstar. He won every gold medal - including as part of the team event - at the first World Cup in 1967. He won three gold medals at the 1968 Winter Olympics in his native France. The events were the downhill, slalom and giant slalom.

Ester Ledecka is primarily known as a snowboarder but she also competed in the Super-G alpine skiing event at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She was not considered a competitor and raced toward the back of the order. Many media organizations that covered the event wrote Ledecka off and did not air her race and declared Anna Veith of Austria the winner before the event was completed.

They had to back track and make the correction when Ledecka unexpectedly won. Ledecka also competed in the parallel giant slalom snowboarding even and won gold there.

Her wins in 2018 made her the first winter Olympian to win a gold medal with two different pieces of equipment (skis and snowboard).
10. December 14, 1956 in Straubing, Germany; Liechtenstein's first Olympic medalist; Part of a family of alpine skiing champions

Answer: Hanni Wenzel

Hanni Wenzel was the very first person from Liechtenstein to win a medal when she won bronze in the slalom event in 1976. She also became Liechtenstein's first Olympic gold medalist in 1980 when she won slalom and giant slalom events. Her brother Andreas is also an Olympic alpine skier. Together, they won six medals, which at one point was all but one of Liechtenstein's Olympic medals.
