Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many all-stars did the Bulls have for the 1991-92 season?

Answer: 2

Jordan and Pippen both got all-star births. This was the first of many to come for Pippen.
2. Who coached the Bulls before Phil Jackson?

Answer: Doug Collins

Collins was fired in 1989, because of his disputes with many of the Bulls' personnel. Collins again coached Jordan from 2001-03, as a Washington Wizard.
3. Did Michael Jordan win the 1990-91 regular season MVP award?

Answer: Yes

This was the second of Jordan's five MVP seasons.
4. Did Jordan win the scoring title (highest points per game) for the 1990-91 season?

Answer: Yes

This was the fifth straight year Jordan won the scoring title. He averaged 31.5 points per game, slightly down from the previous season. He would win the scoring title the next two years as well, making that seven straight years he lead the league in scoring. He might have made it eight (or more), had he not retired to play baseball after the 1992-93 season.
5. Which of the following was not a member of the Bulls during the 1990-91 season?

Answer: Steve Kerr

Kerr joined the team for their second run of three championships from 1995-98. All three of these Bulls played very limited roles in their championship run.
6. What was the Bulls' record to end the 1990-91 season?

Answer: 61-21

They set a franchise record, going 61-21. This was the Bulls' first 60-win season.
7. Who was the starting point guard for the 1990-91 season?

Answer: John Paxson

Paxson started nearly every game at the point guard position, although he did not play the typical point guard role. He was more of a spot-up shooter, taking advantage when the defense collapsed on Jordan or Pippen. Armstrong was Paxson's backup for most of the season, but he often played in the crunch minutes.
8. Which European player was Jerry Krause, the Bulls' general manager, chasing for most of the season?

Answer: Toni Kukoc

After seeing the Lakers' successes with Divac, Krause wanted a European star of his own. He would eventually land Kukoc, but not until after the season. Krause's chasing of Kukoc made many Bulls players mad, especially Pippen, who wanted more money. Krause however, was saving all of the extra cap-room money in case Kukoc decided he wanted to play for the Bulls.
9. How many University of North Carolina alumni played for the Bulls during the 1990-91 season?

Answer: 2

Jordan, who is a Tar Heel, has always been drawn to other Tar Heels. He was constantly trying to get Krause to sign another one, and this season he got Scott Williams, the 12th man for much of the season. Williams often hung around with Jordan.
10. Which Bull won his second straight 3-point shooting contest at the 1991 all-star game?

Answer: Craig Hodges

Little used Hodges could sure shoot the ball.
11. Which star player did Bill Cartwright inadvertantly knock out for 2 months?

Answer: Akeem Olajuwon

Cartwright has always been known for his flying elbows, and on this occasion, he pegged Olajuwon with one of them. The Houston Rockets, Olajuwon's team, would complain to the NBA, but nothing was done. Olajuwon would add an H to his name, making it Hakeem soon afterwards. Cartwright in 2003, was the head coach for the Bulls.
12. For what team did Phil Jackson win 2 NBA championships as a player?

Answer: New York Knicks

He felt that the Knicks of the early 1970s (who won in 1969-70 and 1972-73), played like a team, and was trying to get the Bulls to do so too. With Jordan around, that was very hard.
13. In which state was Phil Jackson born and raised?

Answer: Montana

He spends his summers in Montana, hiking and doing other activities, along with planning out the next NBA season.
14. Which team had knocked the Bulls out of the playoffs the two previous seasons (1988-89 and 1989-90)?

Answer: Detroit Pistons

Both of these were in the Eastern Conference Finals. Jordan and the Bulls had a tough time with the Pistons gritty defense, which would force Jordan get rid of the ball. The Bulls finally got past them in 1991, sweeping them 4-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals.
15. What was the Bulls' 1991 playoff record?

Answer: 15-2

Their only losses came in the second round to the 76ers, and game one of the NBA Finals to the Lakers in overtime.
