Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the midst of Ben Wallace leaving to play in Chicago, Detroit was looking to make a splash in the free agent market to replace him. Which center did the Pistons sign to a 5 year contract, before the season began?

Answer: Nazr Mohammed

Nazr Mohammed was drafted 29th overall in the 1998 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz. He has had stints with Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, San Antonio and Detroit. Talk about a free agent bust, Nazr only averaged 5.6 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for Detroit in the regular season this year. Let's see, that equals approximately $18,234.26 per point. Mohammed didn't produce much in the post-season either, totaling just 5 points and playing in only 2 of Detroit's 16 games!
2. Baseball is not the only sport in which drug testing and abuse has an effect on. Which Piston received a 10 game suspension on March 7, 2007 for testing positive for phentermine?

Answer: Lindsey Hunter

Although Lindsey claimed that he had accidentally taken some of his wife's weight loss pills, the NBA still slapped him with a 10 game suspension. Phentermine is commonly used as an appetite suppressant, but it is also known to be a masking agent for certain types of steroids.
3. Like many other NBA franchises, the Pistons liked to argue foul calls when they did not go in the favor of Detroit. This sometimes led to unhappy referees or even technical fouls. Which Piston player had the most technical fouls called against him this year?

Answer: Rasheed Wallace

Unbelievable right? "Sheed" has been amongst the top offenders in the NBA when it comes to techs for quite sometime now. He finished the season with a grand total of 21 technical fouls. The most surprising offender was "Rip" with 15 techs this year. Prior to the 2006-07 season, Hamilton had only committed 39 technical fouls in seven NBA seasons. He almost tripled his average!
4. When the Pistons noticed that the Nazr Mohammed experiment wasn't working out they decided that they better look for someone new. Which PF/C did Detroit sign on January 16, 2007?

Answer: Chris Webber

C-Webb was a homegrown product who played high school ball at Detroit Country Day and college ball at the University of Michigan. Webber had to pick a new jersey number to wear because his normal number, 4, had been retired by the Pistons in honor of Hall of Famer and GM Joe Dumars. Chris chose to wear number 84 after his nephew told him that he had seen his uncle hit a buzzer beater in that number during a dream.
5. What seed did the Pistons earn for the 2007 NBA Playoffs?

Answer: 1

Detroit finished the regular season with a record of 53 victories and 29 losses. They finished 3 games ahead of Cleveland to win the Central division and the Eastern conference. The Pistons also finished the season with the best road record at 27-14, the best conference record at 36-16 and the least points scored against at an average of 91.8 points per game.
6. Who did the Pistons face in the first round of the NBA playoffs, and how many games did it take Detroit to defeat this team?

Answer: Orlando in 4

When the Pistons beat the Orlando Magic in four games it was their first playoff series sweep since the 1990 playoffs. Former Detroit Piston Darko Milicic scored a total of 49 points against his old team. His average of 12.25 ppg was a polar opposite to the 1 total point he scored in the 2004 NBA finals when his Pistons won.
7. Which Piston led the team with an astounding 46 total turnovers during the playoffs?

Answer: Chauncey Billups

The normally sure handed Billups led the way with 46 turnovers (in just 16 games) in the playoffs and also had an assist-to-turnover ratio of only 1.98. During the regular season (in 70 games) he only 140 total turnovers with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.59. "Mr. Big Shot" became "Mr. Bad Pass" during this year's playoff run.
8. Which old school rival did the Pistons face in the second round of the playoffs?

Answer: Chicago Bulls

After winning the first three games of this series, the Bulls made it a series by winning games 4 and 5. The Pistons closed it out in the United Center with a 95-85 game six victory. This was the first postseason meeting for the Pistons and Bulls since the infamous 1991 conference finals when the Pistons were swept by the Bulls and walked off the court before the game ended.
9. In arguably one of the greatest NBA playoff performances of all-time, how many total points did LeBron James score in double OT Eastern Conference game 5 thriller?

Answer: 48

Although it is not one of the highest scoring totals of NBA playoff history, it was exactly how it was done that made it so special. James was the only Cleveland player to make a field goal in the last 17:48 of the game and the only one to score any point in the final 12:49. Amazing huh, no Cleveland player made a field goal after 7:48 left in the 4th quarter and this included 2 OTs! Detroit ended up losing the game 109-107 and even more ridiculous is the fact that Detroit had a 7-point lead with 3:15 left in the fourth quarter!
10. A frustrated team indeed. How many Pistons fouled out in the final game of the season?

Answer: 2

I'm sure that this is no big surprise here; the offenders were the technical foul leaders of the regular season, Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton. This though, was a bad game for all the Pistons. As a team they shot 35.9% from the field and only 21.4% from the 3-point line. Detroit was also out rebounded in this contest 53-33.
