Answer: Rollie Fingers

Rollie pitched in 17 seasons with nine being as an Oakland Athletic. He pitched from 1968-1985, winning four Rolaids Relief awards, and the the AL Cy Young and MVP Award in 1981. Fingers retired with a 114-118 record with 341 saves. The hall inducted him in 1992. Bruce Sutter was the second pitcher inducted with a losing record. Sutter retired with a 68-71 record in 2006.

2. Babe Ruth was the first player in history to hit 50 or home runs in a season four times. Who was the next player to do this?

Answer: Sammy Sosa

In the 1998 season when Mark McGwire hit 70 home runs, Sammy hit 66 and won the NL MVP Award. Sosa followed it up with 63 in 1999, 50 in 2000, and 64 in 2001, all with the Cubs. Sammy retired with 609 home runs, the fifth player to reach 600 when he retired in 2007.

Answer: Houston Colt .45s

The Houston franchise began in 1962. In late 1963, riding in ninth place of 10 teams, manager Harry Craft submitted his lineup card to homeplate umpire Frank Walsh. Walsh noticed that they were all rookies. The game was on September 27, and the game started against the Mets with Houston's lineup of Sonny Jackson at SS, Joe Morgan at 2b, Jimmy Wynn in CF, Rusty Staub at 1b, Aaron Pointer in RF, Brock Davis in LF, Glenn Vaughan at 3b, Jerry Grote catching, and Jay Dahl starting from the mound. The Mets won the game 10-3, and the Colt .45s finished the season with a 66-96 season record. Pictured was a young colt.

Answer: Joe Torre

Torre first managed the New York Mets from 1977-1981. From there it was on to the Braves for three seasons, then the Cardinals for another six. In 1996, Joe took over the Yankees from Buck Showalter, and kept the helm until 2007. The Dodgers found him at the manager spot from 2008 to 2010. Torre retired after the 2010 season with 29 seasons under his hat.
From 1875-1989, Anson had control over the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago Colts (later Cubs) and New York Giants. Chance managed the Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox from 1905-1923. Comiskey managed the St. Louis Browns on the AA, the Chicago Pirates of the PL, and the Cincinnati Reds of the NL. Comiskey's managing career spanned from 1883-1894.

Answer: Dock Ellis

Ellis was a Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher in the 1970s, and had to get special authorization from baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn as hair curlers were not part of a player's uniform. His best season was in 1971 when he went 19-9. He finished fourth for the Cy Young behind Fergie Jenkins, Tom Seaver, and Al Downing.

6. Who was the first female inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame?

Answer: Effa Manley

Effa co-owned the Newark Eagles baseball franchise in the Negro Leagues with her husband Abe from 1935-1946, and watched the Eagles win the Negro League World Series in 1946. She had a large hand in the NAACP in Major League Baseball. Manley was inducted into the hall in 2006, after her death at age 84 in 1981.

7. Which team was the first in history to lose two World Series four games to none?

Answer: Chicago Cubs

The Cubs appeared in their sixth World Series in 1932 when they lost to the Yankees four games to none. They repeated the sweep in 1938 against the Yankees again. The second team to be skunked twice in two World Series was the Yankees, who were swept by the Giants in 1922, then again by the Dodgers in 1963.

Answer: Tom Glavine

Glavine spent 17 seasons with the Braves, winning the 1991 and 1998 NL Cy Young Award with them. He was released by the Braves and signed as a free agent with the Mets. Tom's 300th win came in 2007. He retired with a 305-203 career record. The others didn't win 300 games.

Answer: Arizona Diamondbacks

The 2002 Arizona Diamondbacks had Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling on the mound. Johnson went 24-5 with 334 strikeouts, winning his fifth and final Cy Young Award. Schilling went 23-7 with 313 strikeouts, and finished runner-up for the Cy Young. The 1971 Baltimore Orioles had four 20-game winners, but none had 300 strikeouts.

His record-breaking home run came in the fourth inning of the game in which the Braves scored four runs in that inning. The Braves won that game 7-4 over the Dodgers. Hank also led the league in home runs four times.
