Answer: Ryne Sandberg

Ryne's first season was with the Phillies in 1981, then it was Chicago for the rest of his 16-season career. He pulled off the MVP in 1984 over Keith Hernandez of the Mets and Tony Gwynn of the Padres.

Answer: Kirby Puckett

After finishing third in the Rookie of the Year balloting in 1984. He stood behind Alvin Davis and Mark Langston, both of the Mariners for the award. Kirby was runner-up for the MVP Award in 1992, losing the coveted award to pitcher Dennis Eckersley of the Athletics. He also finished third for the MVP in 1987 and 1988. Puckett was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001, then died at the age of 45 in 2006.

Answer: Joe Morgan

As a Houston Astro in 1965, Joe finished second for the rookie award to Jim Lefebvre of the Dodgers. After the 1971 season, Morgan was traded with Ed Armbrister, Jack Billingham, Cesar Geronimo, and Denis Menke to the Reds. The Astros received Tommy Helms, Lee May, and Jimmy Stewart. In his first season with the Reds, Joe led the league in walks and runs scored. He also won five gold glove awards at second base. Being part of the Big Red Machine in 1975 and 1976, Morgan won two of his four World Series.

Answer: Ernie Lombardi

Lombardi played from 1931-1947 with Brooklyn, Cincinnati, Boston, and New York, all in the National League. After watching Bubbles Hargrave be the first catcher in history to win a batting title in 1926 with the Reds, Lombardi would duplicate it for the Reds in 1938. His only season playing for the Boston Braves in 1942, bagged another batting title. He died in 1977, then was inducted in 1986.

Answer: Rollie Fingers

Rollie played in nine seasons with the Athletics from 1968-1976. After 1973, it was the bullpen for Fingers from there. He won the 1974 World Series MVP, and his third consecutive World Series ring. From 1977-1980, Rollie won three Rolaids awards as a Padre, then it was on to Milwaukee to finish his career out as a Brewer. In 1981, he won the AL Cy Young and MVP, and his fourth Rolaids Relief Award. He retired with a 114-118 career record.

Answer: Don Drysdale

Drysdale was not a bad hitting pitcher either. Going 39-for-130 in 1965, he batted .300 in the season. Don came up one season after Koufax began his career in 1955. Drysdale sprouted much quicker than Koufax, but when Koufax finally did, he exploded. Don went 25-9 in 1962 to win the Cy Young Award over Jack Sanford and Billy Pierce, both of the Giants. Drysdale was inducted in 1984, then died at the age of 56 in 1993.

Answer: Hilton Smith

Born in 1907, Smith played in many Negro Leagues with many teams during his career. One of his greatest highlights was in 1937 when his Kansas City Monarchs played a Major League all-star team in a series of games, in which he threw 18 scoreless innings against the big bats. Hilton died in 1983 at the age of 76.

8. This Hall of Famer played all his 2000+ games in the outfield with four teams from 1938-1956. He went to two World Series with the Cardinals and three with the Yankees. He was also runner-up MVP in 1942. Who was this that was inducted in the 1980s?

Answer: Enos Slaughter

Enos played in 16 seasons with the Cardinals before being traded to the Yankees in 1954. The Yankees traded him to the Athletics in 1955, but before the season was over, they traded him back to the Yankees. Slaughter won two World Series with the Cardinals and Yankees, with his only loss coming in the pinstripes. He retired with a career .300 batting average in 1959 with the Braves. The hall took him in 1985, then he died in 2005 at the age of 86.

Frank won the first NL MVP Award over the Giants' Christy Mathewson and the Phillies' Pete Alexander. He also led the league in 1911 with 21 home runs, a fair amount in early baseball. Schulte went to four World Series with the Cubs, winning two. He retired with the Washington Senators in 1918.

Answer: Chuck Klein

Chuck played in 17 seasons, and also with the Pirates. His only World Series appearance in 1935 was a four games to two loss to the Tigers. He did bat .333 and had a home run to his credit. By the 1936 season, Klein was back with the Phillies again. He retired in 1944 with exactly 300 home runs.
