Answer: Montreal Canadians

When Plante first wore the goalie mask, the Canadians went unbeaten in 18 games. Head coach Toe Blake was opposed to the hockey mask. Plante spent 12 seasons with Montreal before being traded to the Rangers (2 seasons), after New York he retired, but came back 3 years later to play with St. Louis (2 seasons), Toronto (2 and a half seasons), and ended his NHL career in Boston in 1973.

Clint Benedict tried out various goalie masks while playing with the Montreal Maroons, approximately 30 years before Jacques Plante. He had used various forms of leather face masks which offered only limited protection.

Prior to the Falcons and Red Wings, they had been the Cougars 1926-1929.
