1. What are the two main categories in athletics?

Answer: Track And Field

Track events are events like sprints (100m, 200m etc.), Long distance, Hurdles etc. Field events are like jumping and throwing events.
2. How many jumping events are there?

Answer: 4

The four events are high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vault.
3. What best describes the actions taken in triple jump?

Answer: hop, step, jump

The most common descriptions of triple jump are 'hop skip jump' and 'hop step jump', but 'step' is a more accurate word than 'skip' to describe the motion.
4. Which of these distances is not run in modern competitions?

Answer: 7,500m

Most people would have heard of the 200m and the 10,000m but wouldn't know of the 60m race. It is an uncommon race but is usually run in indoor competitions. The 7,500m does not exist in modern competitions.
5. Which of these isn't a field event?

Answer: Steeplechase

Steeplechase is a strange event usually ran over 3000m. There are 5 barriers spread evenly around the track, 914mm tall for men and 762mm for women. The barriers do not fall when hit so some athletes step on them to get a push off. One of the 5 barriers has water after it.

The water ground slopes up and the water level gets smaller. Therefore, if you jump further, you don't land in too much water.
6. Which of these is not a foul in the high jump?

Answer: Running up to the bar and not attempting to jump

Some information on commiting fouls in high jump are:
*You are allowed 1 minute after your name is called to make an attempt. jumping. In that period, you are allowed to run up to the bar and stop as many times as you like. In a non-attempt, you may not place any part of the body under the bar. You may not jump off two feet. The bar must not fall over because of the athletes movement.

The events are Discus, Javelin, Shot put, and Hammer Throw.

Michael Johnson set the world record in the 200m, 400m, and 4x400m relay. His unique style of short steps proved that to run fast, it was not necessary to have high knee movement.

Answer: Altitude of world record must not be over 2000m due to lack of air resistance

Because no altitude requirement is set, venues of high altitude and consequently lower air resistance are the most popular for world records.

Standing long, high and triple jump were included in the Olympic Games until 1912.
