Earlier in the day Tom had returned bowling figures of 3/25, his best bowling figures in ODI cricket, to help restrict Bangladesh to 7/178 of their 50 overs. Australia then overhauled this total after only 19.5 overs. Moody was given the Man of the Match award in recognition of his excellent batting and bowling performances in this match.

Moody dismissed Abdul Razzaq for 17, caught by Steve Waugh in the covers, while Azhar Mahmood was for 8 after a good caught and bowled by Moody. Tom's figures in the Final were 2/17 off 5 overs. Due to good performances by all of the Australia bowlers, especially Shane Warne, Pakistan were bowled out for 132 off 39 overs. This was a total Australia overhauled with 8 wickets and 30 overs to spare.

After this victory at the 1999 World Cup, Tom became the only other player, with Steve Waugh, to be involved in both of Australia's triumphs at the 1987 and the 1999 Cricket World Cups.
