Who is he?

Answer: Jermaine Pennant

Jermaine Pennant began with Arsenal in 1999, but struggled during much of his time with the team. He infamously played a match in 2005 with an electric tag, having t serve probation for drunk driving. He signed with S-League team Tampines Rovers in January 2016 for a one year deal. His signing created a buzz in the local league, and fans were flocking back to the stadiums, but he made little impact, with the team finishing 2nd in the league against Japan based Albirex Niigata. Nine months later, he announced he would not renew his contract with Tampines Rovers, and in an interview with the local newspaper The Straits Times, he claimed that 'even Lionel Messi would not help elevate the S. League'.

3. What traditional sport is played at the MCG in Melbourne on Boxing Day?

Answer: Cricket

The Boxing Day Match is the traditional start of the Cricket Test Matches for whatever country they are playing against that summer. The Melbourne Cricket Ground, known as either the MCG or the G, is the 10th largest ground in the world with impressive stadiums, a museum, the tallest night lights and is constantly being improved.

The ground was built in the 1850s, was the centre piece of the 1956 Olympics, 2006 Commonwealth Games and of course Cricket World Cups. Submitted by ClaudiaCat.
4. Located in the outer Firth of Clyde, the island of Ailsa Craig played a part in which traditional Scottish sport?

Answer: Curling

The first mention of Curling as a sport dates back to 16th century Scotland, with the earliest recorded evidence being a written account of a contest written in the accounts of Paisley Abbey, Renfrewshire. In addition, the Flemish artist, Pieter Bruegel the Elder also depicted Curling taking place in his paintings, "Winter Landscape with a Bird Trap" and "The Hunters in the Snow", also from the 16th century,

The game of Curling takes place on a rectangular sheet of ice 45 to 46m long and 4.4 to 5m wide. At each end, a target - called the house - is painted, with the object being to propel the curling stone as close as possible to the centre of the target as possible whilst blocking your opponent's stone.

McSurfie

Whilst one player propels the stone two of their team members sweep the ice to aid the stone, whilst a fourth team member known as the skip help the sweepers direct the stone towards the house.

In the mid 19th century, it was discovered that a rare type of granite - named Ailsite - was found on the island of Ailsa Craig, located off the Ayrshire coast. A particular type named Blue Hone was found the make good curling stones due to its properties of low water absorption. A more common type of granite named Ailsa Craig Common Green is also used to make curling stones of a lesser quality to those made with Blue Hone.

Although quarrying of the stone now takes place on a smaller scale of every few years, granite quarried from the island is used to make over 50% of all the worlds curling stones. In addition, Ailsa Craig is also only one of two sources of granite to be quarried for stone to make curling stones, the other being the Trefor Granite Quarry, located in Wales. 5. Joseph Schooling, the Singaporean Olympic gold medallist -- He won Singapore's first gold in 2016, but something unprecedented happened. What other achievement occurred during the 100m Butterfly?

Answer: Three swimmers were tied for silver.

Amazingly, at a time of 51.14 seconds, Michael Phelps, Chad le Clos of South Africa and László Cseh of Hungary finished behind Schooling and all won silver medals. Already historic with Joseph Schooling's win, he was just 0.19 seconds behind the world record set by Phelps himself. Despite not winning, Phelps was deeply humble and even proud of Schooling's achievement. Chad le Clos previously won gold in the 200m butterfly of the 2012 Olympics, while László Cseh has won 4 silvers and 2 bronzes in his career.

Not tonight, our special beverage is called 'The Jockey Club Cocktail'. What famous Canadian bred race horse was inducted into both the Canadian and USA halls of fame?

Answer: Northern Dancer

Northern Dancer was a Canadian bred male race horse who won the Preakness and the Kentucky Derby. As a young horse nobody wanted to buy him and he was passed over at many auctions because he was considered to be a small horse. Not only did he win the Derby but ran it in two minutes flat. Prior to his U.S victories he ran many races in Canada and was lovingly nicknamed 'The Dancer'.

Answer: Speedway

Valsarna are based in the town of Hagfors in Central Sweden and compete in the Allvenskan League, the second tier of speedway in Sweden. For example one of the top riders, Denmark's Neils-Kristian Iversen, in 2016 rode for Kings Lynn in the UK, Gorzow in Poland, Indianerna in Sweden and Ebsjerg in Denmark. It sure makes for a lot of travelling for the top guys. Submitted by Valsarna.
