Elway played for four seasons, throwing 77 touchdowns, and setting virtually every Stanford and Pac-10 record. He was Player of the Year twice, and later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Answer: Kansas City Royals

Elway chose to attend Stanford and play football rather than sign with the Royals. In the 1981 MLB draft, he was the first selection of the New York Yankees. The following summer, while still attending Stanford, he hit .314 and a club-high 24 home runs while playing for New York single-A farm club.
