Answer: 1887

The club was formed in 1880 as West Gorton St Marks, it went on to become Ardwick in 1887 and moved to Hyde Road before becoming Manchester City FC in 1894.
2. For the first seven years (since establishment) Manchester City weren't known as Manchester City. What were they known as?

Answer: Ardwick FC

Man City were known as Ardwick FC in 1887 when they first became a professional club they had previously been called West Gorton St Marks but were yet to turn professional.
3. Which of these historical managers have never managed Man City?

Answer: Brian Clough

Brian Clough never managed Man City though his son Nigel Clough played for them. Brian Clough died in September 2004 and his managerial career is most notable for his success with Derby County and Nottingham Forest. Whereas Peter Reid managed Man City between 1990-93, Alan Ball managed them between 1995-96 and John Bond had managed them before both Reid and Ball in 1980-83.

One of Man City's greater achievements, scoring 104 goals and conceding 100 goals in the 1957/58 season, with Leslie McDowall as manager. City finished 5th that season under the likes of West Bromwich Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, Preston North End and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who had won the old Division One title that season.
8. City once won the old European Cup-Winners Cup?

City won what once was the European Cup-Winners Cup in 1970 under Joe Mercer, who later became one of City's most memorable and successful managers due to his success of winning the Cup Winners Cup.
9. Which of these did not play for Manchester City?

Answer: Steve Harkness

Steve Harkness played for Carlisle, Liverpool, Huddersfield (loaned from Liverpool), Southend (loaned from Liverpool), Blackburn, Sheffield Wednesday and Chester. He was also bought by Portuguese team Benfica after playing for Southend but never made a competetive starting appearance.

But the majority of his career he enjoyed at Liverpool staying with the club for 10 years and making 121 competetive first team appearances. Tommy Johnson is probably most memorable as a City player for scoring 38 goals in 1928/29 which was a City record for a very long time. Mike Summerbee made over 400 appearances for City and in his first season (1965/66) he was the only City player to start every single game that season. Nicky Summerbee was the son of Mike Summerbee and played for City for three years playing 152 competetive first team appearances.

Answer: Mark Bosnich

Mark Bosnich played for Aston Villa, Manchester United and Chelsea. Peter Schmiechel and David Seaman both finished their careers at the club. David James has also played for Liverpool, Aston Villa and West Ham United.
