1. In 2004, the Twins won their AL Central Division. Which pitcher won the most games for them in the season?

Answer: Johan Santana

Although all Twins pitchers, it was Johan who won the American League Cy Young Award for his efforts in 2004. Santana was in his fifth season with the Twins. His 20 wins was a new career high for him, winning 12 in 2003.
2. How many seasons after the move from Washington, did it take the Twins to go to their first World Series?

Answer: 5

With their first season in 1961, the Twins went to the promised land in 1965 against the Dodgers. The series went seven games, but the Twins could not ward off Dodger ace, Sandy Koufax. 1987 brought Minnesota fans their first World Series crown.
3. Who was the first Twin to win a batting title?

Answer: Tony Oliva

Oliva won the AL batting title in 1964, five years before Carew won his in 1969. Tony won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1964 also.
4. Billy Martin managed the Twins in his first managerial season in 1969. Which Twins pitcher did Martin brawl with in a bar, sending the pitcher to the hospital?

Answer: Dave Boswell

Boswell was one of two 20-game winners for the Twins in 1969, Jim Perry being the other. Needless to say, this was Billy's last season with the Twins' organization.
5. Harmon Clayton Killebrew was one of the most feared batters in a Twins uniform. How many times in his career did he hit 50+ home runs in a season?

Although he hit a career 573 home runs, he never hit reached the 50 plateau. He hit 49 twice in 1964 and 1969. In addition to leading the American League in home runs six times, he won the AL MVP in 1969.

After going 81-81 in 2001 under Tom Kelly, the Twins' change was a positive won with the 44-year old Gardenhire, winning 94 games in his first season.

Answer: Frank Viola

Although all Twins at some point in their career, Viola went 17-10 in 1987, and put his best foot forward in the World Series that year. The Twins defeated the Cardinals, four games to three. Frank won two games in the series but didn't stop there. He topped it all in 1988 by winning the AL Cy Young Award with his 24-7 record.

He would win only eight more games for the Twins before being traded, then retired eight seasons later in 1996.
8. Which of the following Twins pitchers had more strikeouts in a season?

Answer: Johan Santana

Santana crushed some team records in 2004, and strikeouts in a season was one of them. Johan surpassed Bert Blyleven's 258 in 1973 by striking out 265. Chance had 234 in 1968, Kaat fanned 211 in 1967, and Viola never reached the 200 mark in a Twins' uniform.
9. Who was the first Minnesota Twins' catcher?

Answer: Earl Battey

Battey, who joined the Major Leagues in 1955, made the move from Washington with the team for the 1961 season. His 1960 Gold Glove was repeated in 1961 and 1962. Earl retired as a Twin in 1967 after playing in 13 seasons. Earl Jesse Battey Jr. died in November of 2003.
10. Twins fans should be able to pick their 2004 player who played in the most games during the season. Who was it?

Answer: Lew Ford

The others were all Twins pitchers and did not appear in more than 10 games. Ford, the Twins' left fielder played in 154 games in the season, three more than right fielder Jacque Jones. Lew batted .299 with 15 home runs.
