Dean Smith originally coached North Carolina from 1960-1963 before getting fired. After the 1963-1964 season passed, he was hired for a second time to coach UNC and never looked back. Smith's second go-around went from 1964-1997 before finally retiring.

The tiny St. Peter's guard from New York attended Rice High School, where he learned different scoring techniques. Later at St. Peter's, he tore up the MAAC and the national spotlight by averaging close to 35 points a game in college. Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh only averaged around 20 points a contest in college the year before.

CCNY(City College of New York), which is unfamiliar to the sports world, was college basketball's peak twice. Back then, the NIT came before the NCAA Tournament and there was no rule of how many tournaments you were allowed to go to, so CCNY just got invited to both and put on a remarkable show of basketball before being crowned. CCNY beat the same team in the tournament finals, beating Bradley twice.
