Answer: Daffy

Paul Dee played alongside his brother, and earned the name 'Daffy' as a joke, not reflective on his personality. The Dean brothers once pitched the Cardinals into the 1934 World Series and Dizzy went on to broadcast games in which he would colorfully remark 'he slud into third base'.
2. Mordecai Brown was an unusual ballplayer. What was his nickname? Mordecai Brown had an unusual nickname which affected his ability to throw the ball. What was it.

Answer: Three-fingered

Brown lost parts of two mingers on his right hand before he became a Major League pitcher, and had a successful carrer which landed him in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
3. Mike Shannon played 3rd base for the Cardinals in the 1970's and 1980's. What did his team mates call him.

Answer: Moon Man

After retiring from baseball due to a severe illness, Mike broadcasted for the Cardinals from 1972. He also opened a restaurant called "Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood" in St. Louis.
4. Harold Henry Reese, shortstop of the Dodgers, was a Hall of Fame inductee. What was his nickname?

Answer: Pee Wee

'Pee Wee' was one of the Dodgers that made the move from Brooklyn NY, to Los Angeles CA. In his career he was elected a whopping ten times to the All-Star game. He was the first baseball player to support Jackie Robinson in the Major Leagues, even though he grew up in segregated Kentucky, and he and Robinson became good friends.
5. Cy Young's name Cy was not his first name but a shortened form of his early nickname. What was it?

Answer: Cyclone

His windup and pitching style reminded batters of a cyclone, though his 'true' name was Denton True Young. The award named after his is awarded to the best pitcher in each league. Amazingly, in Cy Young's Major league debut, he managed to throw a three-hitter!
6. Tony Lazzeri was in a lineup that featured Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and Earle Combs. He was a great set up man. What was his nickname?

Answer: Poosh 'em up Tony

Anthony Michael Lazzeri hit the long foul off of Grover Cleveland Alexander which almost cost the Cardinals the World Series in the 1920's. Alexander pitched the day before and didn't think he would be called on so he went on a bender and was hung over in the dugout when called upon to face the dangerous Lazzeri. Tony Lazzeri is the first player in the Major Leagues that hit two grand slams in the same game, and he did it in two consecutive innings.
7. The Cardinals won the World Series in 1934. What was the team called collectively.

Answer: The Gashouse Gang

The nickname was acquired from opposing teams who thought that they were sloppy and disheveled. They beat the Detroit Tigers 4 games to 3 in the 1934 World series. In the final game of the World Series, the Tigers were embarrased at home by a blowout score of 11-0.
8. 1927 New York Yankees were known as?

Answer: Murderers' Row

The name was first applied to the Yankees before Babe Ruth joined them, back in 1919, but the name stuck, and the 1927 team was the best of them all. In that season they posted a 110-44 record, and swept the World Series, playing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 1927 team had six of their members iducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
9. The New York Mets had a first baseman during the first year they were in existence, Marv Throneberry. Though not the greatest fielder, he was known as?

Answer: Marvelous Marv

His ineptitude in the field led him to lose his starting position many times, though he was often relegated to AAA ball. He had a massive swing, but he struck out as often as he connected. He was released by the Mets to make room for Ed Kranepool.
10. Leo Durocher, one of my favorite colorful managers had an interesting personality related nickname. What was it?

Answer: The Lip

It was Leo who apparently coined the term 'The Gashouse Gang'. He became a manager in 1939 after a solid but unspectacular baseball career at shortstop. When he retired he was ranked number 5 amongst managers in total wins. He was also married to actress Laraine Day but she couldn't take his temper either, and they were married thirteen tumulous years.
