Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Oklahoma City Thunder got its start after what franchise made the move to OKC?

Answer: Seattle Supersonics

The Seattle Supersonics played in Seattle from 1967 till 2008. Team owner Clay Bennett and lawmakers in Seattle disputed the team's lease on KeyArena in Seattle. The case went to court and was settled, paving the way for the franchise's move to the Sooner State.
2. The Thunder play their home games in downtown Oklahoma City. The arena they play in has had multiple names on it. Which of following is not one of those names?

Answer: Sonic Center

The Sonic Center was actually one name possibility that was thrown around when the arena had a name change in 2011. It would not have been a reference to the franchise's previous name (however ironic that would be), but a reference to the Sonic Drive-In corporation, headquartered in Oklahoma City.
3. The Thunder have seen great improvement in wins and talent under head coach Scott Brooks. Brooks replaced the Thunder's original coach 13 games into the inaugural 2008-09 season. Who was the original coach?

Answer: P.J. Carlesimo

Carlesimo was fired after a 1-12 start to the 2008-09 season. Assistant coach Brooks was promoted to interim head coach for the remainder of the season, and became the permanent head coach at the season's end.
4. The Thunder's inaugural 2008 draft saw six players drafted to the Thunder. Which of following players was *not* one of those six?

Answer: Byron Mullens

Malik Rose played 20 games that season. Desmond Mason played in 39 games, starting 19 of them. Nenad Krstic, a mid-season acquirement, played in 46 games, starting 29. Byron Mullens didn't play for the Thunder until the following season.
6. During the 2009-10 season, Kevin Durant became the youngest player in league history to win the scoring title. What was his points per game for the season?

7. Due to Hurricane Katrina's fury on the Gulf Coast in 2005, the New Orleans Hornets made their temporary home in Oklahoma City for two seasons, likely playing a strong factor in Oklahoma gaining the permanent Thunder in 2008. One player suited up for both the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets and the Oklahoma City Thunder. Can you name this player?

Answer: Desmond Mason

Oklahoma State alum Desmond Mason played for the Hornets for both seasons and for the Thunder during the 2008-2009 season. Nick Collison has always played for the Thunder franchise. Both Earl Watson and Johan Petro played for the Thunder during the 2008-2009, but neither played for the Hornets when they were in OKC.
8. When the Thunder first came to OKC, they had no permanent practice facility. Instead, they held their practices on the campus of a local university. Which college was this?

Answer: Southern Nazarene University

Built in 1999, the Sawyer Center on the campus of Southern Nazarene University not only was the temporary home of Thunder practices, but also served as the practice facility for the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets during their tenure in OKC. They moved into their permanent practice facility near Broadway Extension and Britton Road in 2011.
9. Debuting on February 17, 2009, the Oklahoma City Thunder mascot is easily recognizable as a giant hairy bison. What is the bison's name?

10. Oklahoma City's D-League team can be found up the Turner Turnpike in Tulsa. What is the name of the team?

Answer: Tulsa 66ers

The Tulsa 66ers are named after historic Route 66, which runs through the city. The Tulsa Drillers are the AA minor league baseball team. The Tulsa Oilers are the Central Hockey League team. The Tulsa Talons are the Arena Football League team.
