Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Redskins acquired quarterback Mark Brunell from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Where did Brunell play his college ball?

Answer: University of Washington

One of the first things that Joe Gibbs did was bring in a veteran quarterback. Something that all his previous teams had. Brunell brought NFL experience after spending 9 of his 10 years in the league with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
2. Which former "Hog" did Gibbs try to hire as an offensive assistant?

Answer: Russ Grimm

Sadly, Russ was promoted to offensive coordinator for the Steelers, and the 'Skins were not able to lure him away. Russ was the onfield leader of the Redskins' offensive line in the mid to late 80s.
3. Which defensive end was rumored to be the hottest player on the Redskins free agent wish list, that they were unable to sign?

Answer: Jevon Kearse

The Skins will get to face Kearse twice as he was signed away from Tennessee by the Eagles.
4. The Redskins traded CB Champ Bailey for Bronco RB Clinton Portis. What else did the Skins give to Broncos to make this deal happen?

Answer: 2nd round 2004 draft pick

Gibbs got his every down back in Portis. Only time will tell if giving up Bailey (who many consider to be the best cover corner in the league) was too high a price to pay.
5. Which linebacker was uninvited from Gibb's first mini camp and told to seek a trade?

Answer: Jeremiah Trotter

Trotter came as a free agent to the Skins, and never regained the all-pro form that he had in Philadelphia.
6. Which former Redskin receiver was signed away from another team?

Answer: James Thrash

Thrash was an excellent receiver for the 'Skins until he was signed away by the the Eagles. Since the 'Skins got him signed him away from the Eagles, he should provide excitement.
7. Which restricted free agent wide out, was re-signed by the Skins?

Answer: Darnerien McCants

McCants was one of the few bright spots from the 2003 season. He tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns, but was thought to be expendable due to the 'Skins depth at receiver. He should fit into Gibbs offense well.
8. Which two other former Redskins, did Joe Gibbs sign away from other teams?

Answer: Cory Raymer (C) and Walter Rasby (TE)

These were two other good but not great players that the 'Skins let go. Raymer should provide toughness at the center position and Rasby should will be a solid blocking tight end.
9. The Redskins had four picks in the 2004 draft. How many were used on defensive players?

Answer: 1

The 'Skins took safety Sean Taylor out of the University of Miami with the 5th pick in the Draft. They took tight end Chris Cooley out of Utah State in the 3rd round, OT Marc Wilson from Cal in the 5th and Jim Molinaro from Notre Dame in the 6th.
10. Of the four picks that the 'Skins had, how many were originally theirs?

Answer: 1

Only their 1st round, fifth overall pick that they used to take Taylor, with was originally their own. Their second round pick was part of the Portis deal with Denver, and their lower round picks also were traded away or part of compesation for restricted free agents.
