American won the right to host the 1994 World Cup on 4 July 1988 - Independence Day - USA 10 votes, to Morocco 7 votes and Brazil (2 votes).
2. Which city hosted the opening game of the 1994 World Cup?

Answer: Chicago

The opening game took place in Soldier Field, Chicago. Germany, the reigning World Champions, defeated Bolivia 1-0.
3. Who scored Ireland's winning goal against Italy?

Answer: Ray Houghton

Ireland beat Italy 1-0 in the group stage.
Ireland and Italy had also met four years earlier in the 1990 World Cup - the Italians emerged victorious in the quarter-final, winning 1-0.
