1. Which teams did not win a match in this World Cup?

Answer: Kenya and Scotland

None of the teams in group A or group B won each match they played. South Africa and Pakistan, the teams heading their group tables, won four matches each, from the five they played. One match had no result - that between New Zealand and Zimbabwe. Rain interrupted play and although the reserve day was used, it was not possible to finish the game.
2. The narrowist winning margin was the victory of Zimbabwe over India. How many runs did Zimbabwe win by?

Answer: 3 runs

Zimbabwe scored 252 for 9 from their fifty overs, then managed to bowl India out for 249 in 45 overs. Streak and Olonga took 3 wickets each. It had seemed that India were sure to win, especially when they needed 9 runs from the last two overs and they still had three wickets left. However, Zimbabwe pulled off an unexpected victory much to the delight of their fans.
3. The group A game between South Africa and Kenya was played in Holland.

Answer: true

This game was played at the VRA Ground, Amstelveen. The ground is near Amsterdam. It became an official one day international ground at the time of the 1999 World Cup. The group B game between Bangladesh and the West Indies was played in Dublin, at the Castle Avenue ground.
4. Minhajul Abedin was the man of the match in the Bangladesh versus Scotland game. What did he do to deserve this award?

Answer: Scored 68 not out and took 1-12

In partnership with Naimur Rahman, Minhajul Abedin led the recovery of the visiting side. They had been in dire straights at 26 for 5, but they put on 69 for the sixth wicket, ending with a total of 185 for 9 from their 50 overs. In reply, Scotland made 163, Minhajul Abedin capturing the wicket of Stanger.
5. India managed a 157 run victory over Sri Lanka in their group A match. Which two Indian batsmen made centuries in this game?

Answer: Ganguly and Dravid

Dravid's century came off 102 balls and Ganguly's off 119 balls. Ganguly was finally out for 183 and Dravid for 145. They had put on 318 for the second wicket. Theirs were the two highest scores of the 1999 World Cup. The third highest score was also made by an Indian - Tendulkar's 140* against Kenya.
6. In the first semi final, New Zealand took on Pakistan. What was the result of this match?

Answer: Pakistan won by 9 wickets

New Zealand batted first and scored 241-7. Man of the Match, Shoaib Akhtar took three wickets for 55. Saeed Anwar then scored 113 not out, to guide Pakistan to victory by 9 wickets.
7. How did Australia reach the World Cup final in 1999?

Answer: They finished higher than South Africa on the super six table

The match between Australia and South Africa was tied. Both sides scored 213 all out, so Australia progressed to the finals as they were second on the Super Six table, while South Africa were third. Both teams had six points, but the Australians had a superior run rate.
8. Who were the captains of the teams in the final?

Answer: Wasim Akram and Steve Waugh

Wasim Akram won the toss and decided to bat first in the final. Pakistan scored 132 all out, mainly thanks to Shane Warne, who took 4-33 and was the man of the match. The Australians needed only 20.1 overs to score 133 for the loss of just two wickets. Steve Waugh was not even required to bat.
9. Who were the leading wicket takers in the 1999 World Cup?

Answer: Geoff Allott and Shane Warne

Allott and Warne took 20 wickets each; McGrath took 18 and Klusener 17. Saqlain Mushtaq also took 17 wickets. Courtney Walsh was a leader in economy, claiming 11 wickets at an average of 9.81.
10. Which batsman scored the most runs in this competition?

Answer: Rahul Dravid

Dravid scored 461 runs; Steve Waugh, the second most prolific runscorer made 398. However, Dravid played in eight matches, while Waugh played in ten. Ganguly scored 379 and Mark Waugh 375.
