Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What highly touted player did the Detroit Lions select with the 2nd overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft?

Answer: Calvin Johnson

Calvin was born on September 25, 1985 in Tyrone, Georgia, and he played his college ball at Georgia Tech. He combines the rare combination of both size and speed, a 40-yard dash time of 4.35 seconds. All the incorrect choices were also wide receivers that the Lions have selected in the 1st round of the NFL Draft during Matt Millen's tenure as General Manager. Charles Rogers was selected with the 2nd overall pick in the 2003 draft, Roy Williams was selected with the 7th overall pick of the 2004 draft, and Mike Williams was selected with the 10th overall pick of the 2005 draft.
2. Quarterback Drew Stanton was drafted by the Lions after playing his college ball at Michigan State University. In which round of the 2007 NFL Draft did the Lions select Drew?

Answer: 2nd

Drew was taken during the 2nd round with the 43rd overall pick. He had a very good career while playing at MSU, completing 64% of his passes while throwing for 6524 yards and 42 touchdowns with only 28 interceptions. Stanton also gained status as a scrambling quarterback while rushing for 1,512 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Although he had some very promising snaps during mini-camp practices, Drew was placed on the injured-reserve, a season-ending injury list on August 3rd after suffering a knee injury during Lions training camp.
3. Who did the Lions defeat 36-21 in the first game of the season?

Answer: Oakland Radiers

This game was supposed to feature the #1 and #2 picks from the 2007 NFL Draft, but Oakland quarterback JaMarcus Russell failed to sign a contract until September 12. Instead we saw a former Detroit Lion quarterback, Josh McCown, start for Oakland and throw for two touchdowns. That total failed to be enough as Lions quarterback John Kitna threw for three touchdowns and led Detroit to the victory.
4. During which game did running back Kevin Jones get his first carry of the season?

Answer: Philadelphia

KJ had been rehabbing for a few months after surgery to repair a Lisfranc fracture that had occurred during the 2006 season. Although he got his first carries in the week 3 game against Philadelphia, he did not become the full-time starter again until week 7 against Tampa Bay.
5. What was the record for the Detroit Lions at the halfway point of the season?

Answer: 6-2

Indeed the Lions did have a winning record of 6-2 at the turning point of the season. The Lions had already swept the season series against the Chicago Bears and also boasted victories against Tampa Bay, Oakland, Minnesota, and Denver.
6. Many people saw Shaun "Big Baby" Rogers rumbling down the field while returning an interception 66 yards for a touchdown during the November 4 game against the Denver Broncos. Which Bronco quarterback threw that pass?

Answer: Patrick Ramsey

This was Ramsey's only interception thrown in his 48 attempts during the season. Shaun Rogers played collegiately at the University of Texas and was drafted in the second round of the 2001 NFL Draft. Rogers made the Pro Bowl in both the 2005 and 2006 NFL seasons.

After much skepticism as to whether or not Shaun had been "taking plays off" during his time spent in Detroit, he was traded to the Cleveland Browns on February 29, 2008, for cornerback Leigh Bodden and a third round draft pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.
7. Which Detroit Lions' rookie recorded a total of 7 tackles in his inaugural season?

Answer: Ramzee Robinson

First round draft pick Calvin Johnson only recorded three tackles during his rookie season, but he gets a pass because he plays on the offense. Second round draft pick defensive end Ikaika Alama-Francis recorded just 12 tackles, fourth round cornerback AJ Davis racked up a total of 0 tackles when he failed to make the team out of camp, and fifth round linebacker Johnny Baldwin made 3 total tackles for the Kansas City Chiefs after being yet another player to not make the team out of camp. You have to hand it to Ramzee though, he made the team after being named "Mr. Irrelevant" when he was selected at #255 with the last pick of the 2007 draft.
8. Which player led the Lions in total tackles with 134?

Answer: Ernie Sims

Ernie Sims was drafted out of Florida State University with the ninth overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. Ernie continued to be one of the few bright spots on the team after posting 125 tackles in his rookie season, and then 134 in his second. Sims also got the first interception of his career when he picked off a Brian Griese pass on September 30 against the Chicago Bears.
9. Who led the Detroit Lions in scoring for the season?

Answer: Jason Hanson

Jason Hanson was selected 56th overall in the 1992 NFL Draft out of Washington State University. He led the team with 122 points during the 2007 season, with Kevin Jones being the next closest at only 48 points. Hanson posted back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons in 1998 and 1999 and kicked 22 out of 23 field goals for 95.7% in the 2003 season.
10. How many players represented the Detroit Lions at the 2008 Pro Bowl?

Answer: 0

Detroit was among the five teams who had no players selected to the 2008 Pro Bowl including the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets. The NFC won the contest defeating the AFC by the score of 42-30.
