'The Gladiators', a striking photograph of the giant Norm Provan and the diminutive Arthur Summons (opposing Grand Final Captains), caked in mud and almost unrecognisable, except for the vast difference in height, was to become the inspiration for the Premiership Trophy which immortalised both men in the annals of Rugby League history!

At the tender age of only 22, Reg Gasnier, 'Puff the Magic Dragon', became the then youngest ever Australian Captain. Entering the First Grade ranks in 1959, Reg Gasnier represented both New South Wales and Australia in his debut year but did not play in the Grand Final of 1959 due to injury.
