Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Is it necessary to hit the red balls in a direct line in a breakoff-shot?

Answer: No ,as long you hit a red ball first anything goes

Anything goes, but you should take care because a 'miss' will be called when you miss the red balls. It is forbidden to avoid a snooker by jumping over a coloured ball.
2. What colour does the cloth of a snooker table normally have, especially in big tournaments?

Answer: green

I'm not sure it is obligatory, but you'll hardly find another coloured cloth.
3. Which player is also known as 'The Whirlwind'?

Answer: Jimmy White

4. Who was the 2001 World Champion at snooker?

Answer: Ronnie O'Sullivan

Ronnie beat John Higgins 18-14.
5. To become World Champion, O'Sullivan had to defeat in the semi-finals, a player from Northern Ireland known by the nickname 'The Outlaw'. It was his second successive semi-final in the World Championship. Who is 'The Outlaw'?

Answer: Joe Swail

After making some awesome recoveries in the previous rounds (against Patrick Wallace and Mark Williams for instance), the ever laughing Joe bit the dust against a superb Ronnie.
6. Suppose I start training very hard and manage to win this year my first World Championship. What will almost certain happen next year? Which myth surrounds the World Championship?

Answer: I won't be able to prolongate my title

All the rest may be true, but the answer I was searching for is the fact that since 1969 nobody managed to win the year after he won his first worldtitle. Several players won different titles, but never the two first in a row.
7. Your opponent has made a foul-shot, and you're now snookered. What usually happens next?

Answer: He has to play again from the original position

The referee has to call a 'miss' for, then the ball will be placed back and all other balls will be placed on their previous positions. Take care, it is forbidden to snooker the opponent after the same ball you've selected as the 'free ball'.
8. Each year, there is also an unofficial World Trickshots championship. You won't believe your eyes when you see the players perfom their tricks. Aside the tricks, you must know how to entertain the public (Steve Davis is hilarious, he chats more with the crowd than he is playing some shots). Which player is famous for his 'basket' shot, in which he puts a black ball in a basket, jumps the white ball in it from a distance, the basket starts turning and the ball will roll out?

Answer: Terry Griffiths

9. Is it permissable to pot two balls in the same shot?

Answer: yes, two red balls (2 points)

Only two red balls are allowed. When it is a red and a colour, you won't get any point, your opponent receives the points from the coloured balls and has the option to play.
10. Which nationality is the player Alain Robidoux?

Answer: Canadian
