Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Rams lost Super Bowl XIV to the Pittsburgh Steelers. What was the final score?

Answer: 31-19

Terry Bradshaw was Super Bowl MVP for the second straight year, as the Steelers beat the Rams in front of 103,985 people at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
2. The Rams were the team with the worst regular season won/lost record to make it to the Super Bowl during the 20th century.

Answer: True

In 1979, the Rams finished 9-7 in the regular season. It was a good enough record to win the NFC West. They then defeated the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers to advance to Super Bowl XIV.
3. Which of these records belonged to Rams running back Eric Dickerson at the end of the 20th century?

Answer: both of these

Saints running back George Rogers' rookie record of 1,674 yards rushing in a season stood for only two years, as Dickerson compiled 1,808 yards in his rookie year of 1983. Dickerson then topped O.J. Simpson's 11 year old record of 2,003 yards, by rushing for 2,105 in 1984.
4. Which of these teams did Eric Dickerson never play for?

Answer: Cleveland Browns

Dickerson played for the Rams (1983-1987), the Colts (1987-1991), the Raiders (1992), and the Falcons (1993).
5. The Rams had a different head coach for each of their first three Super Bowl appearances?

Answer: True

Ray Malavasi led the Rams to Super Bowl XIV. Dick Vermeil led them to their first Super Bowl victory in Super Bowl XXXIV, and Mike Martz led them into Super Bowl XXXVI.
6. During the 20th century, how many teams scored more points in a season, than the 526 the Rams put up in 1999?

Answer: 2

The Rams 1999 total of 526 points scored, ranked 3rd at the time behind the 1998 Vikings (556), and the 1983 Redskins (541).
7. Who set a Rams record in 1971 with 247 yards rushing in one game?

Answer: Willie Ellison

Ellison accomplished this in a 45-28 win over the New Orleans Saints. He rushed for exactly 1,000 yards that season. Neither McCutcheon nor Tyler were in the NFL yet.
8. On October 3, 1999, Rams wide receiver Az-Zahir Hakim tied a team record with 4 touchdowns, in a 38-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. What Rams player duplicated the feat in the very next game?

Answer: Isaac Bruce

One of Hakim's touchdowns came on a punt return and three came on pass receptions. All of Bruce's scores were on pass receptions, and they helped the Rams end a 17 game losing streak to the 49ers. The Rams won, 42-20.
9. Who was the Rams starting quarterback in Super Bowl XIV?

Answer: Vince Ferragamo

All of these players were Rams quarterbacks that season. The game was only Ferragamo's 8th career start. Pat Haden was the regular starter for the team at the time but was injured. Injuries at quarterback had plagued the Rams all year. Bob Lee and Jeff Rutledge also started games for the team during the regular season.
10. What Ram set an NFL record with 18 pass receptions in one game?

Answer: Tom Fears

Fears' record setting performance came in a 51-14 win over Green Bay on December 5, 1950. This record stood for an incredible 50 years and 12 days until it was broken by Terrell Owens of the San Francisco 49ers on December 17, 2000. "Flipper" Anderson had 336 receiving yards for the Ram in a single game in 1989, also a 20th century record.
