Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tom Brady became the face of the New England Patriots franchise, leading the team to many playoff appearances, Super Bowl victories, and as league Most Valuable Player in multiple seasons. Do you know in which round in 2000 the Patriots drafted Tom?

Answer: Sixth round

Apparently a diamond in the rough, Tom Brady was not selected until the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft! In fact, six other quarterbacks were drafted ahead of Tom, including Chad Pennington (first round, New York Jets), Giovanni Carmazzi (third round, San Francisco 49ers), and Chris Redman (third round, Baltimore Ravens).
2. Before becoming a Patriot, Tom played football in college; what was the mascot of the school? Although it might sound like it, Charles Xavier was unlikely one of his professors...

Answer: The Wolverines

Tom played for the University of Michigan Wolverines. Unlike the Marvel superhero who shares a name with the team, Tom's talents can't simply be attributed to mutant powers. The USC Trojans reportedly passed on recruiting Brady because they didn't think he would be good enough.
3. When Tom Brady made his debut start for the Patriots in 2001, he was doing so as the team's backup quarterback. Do you recall what injured player Brady was filling in for?

Answer: Drew Bledsoe

Tom was the backup quarterback for Drew Bledsoe in the 2001 season when Bledsoe was injured in week 2 during the first NFL game played after the 9/11 attacks. Ironically, Bledsoe was acting as Brady's backup later that season when Tom was injured in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bledsoe led the team to victory in that game to send the Pats to Super Bowl XXXVI, where Brady took back his command of the offense and brought the franchise its first Super Bowl victory.
4. Who is the mother of the Tom's first child, John?

Answer: Bridget Moynahan

John Edward Thomas Moynahan is Brady's first child. Some fans have speculated Bridget chose the name so Tom's son would forever have the initials "JET" - as in the Patriots' divisional rivals the New York Jets - out of spite due to his breakup with the actress.

However, this may simply be coincidence as John's name is a mixture of Tom's own first and middle names (Thomas and John) along with Bridget's father's first name (Edward).
5. Tom's first Super Bowl appearance was against which team?

Answer: The St. Louis Rams

Brady's first appearance in a Super Bowl was in SB XXXVI against the St. Louis Rams in 2002. The game was played in the New Orleans Super Dome with the Patriots considered underdogs versus a Rams' offense dubbed "The Greatest Show on Turf".
6. Tom Brady has had a professional rivalry with the Manning family over his career. Can you name the pair of brothers who have presented Tom with some of his biggest challenges on the field?

Answer: Eli and Peyton

Eli Manning led the New York Giants to victories over Tom and the Patriots in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI. Peyton Manning has led both the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos in numerous matchups against Brady's AFC rival Patriots, including memorable games in both the regular season and conference playoffs. Both Eli and Peyton are sons of former Pro Bowl quarterback Archie Manning.
7. Much ado had been made about the pressure of footballs used by the Patriots during their 2015 season, culminating in what has been termed "Deflategate". The NFL commissioned an investigation be conducted which resulted in a hotly debated report centered around Tom Brady's involvement in a potential cheating scandal - can you identify the lead investigator for whom the report was named?

Answer: Ted Wells

The Wells Report was utilized by the NFL to issue a controversial suspension to Tom Brady. The details contained in the report were subsequently pored over by fans, lawyers, physicists, and others, which led to many taking to public forums to present their differing opinions and hypotheses over a number of underinflated footballs. Brady's suspension was later vacated by Judge Richard Berman of U.S. Federal Court due to a lack of due process.
8. Tom Brady has multiple Super Bowl MVP titles to go with his rings; however, he has not received that award in all of his championship victories. Which of Tom's teammates was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXIX?

Answer: Deion Branch

Deion Branch was named the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXIX for his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. He received the award for tying the then record of most receptions in a Super Bowl, with 11 catches.
9. Some say behind every great man there is an even greater woman; who was Tom Brady's first wife? One might say the union formed the Brady Bundch...

Answer: Gisele Bundchen

Brazilian Super Model Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady married in February 2009. They announced their divorce in October 2022. Actress Bridget Moynahan and Brady dated for a number of years and have a child together, but they never wed. Actress Tara Reid and Brady have been linked romantically in the past, however, wedding bells never chimed for the pair.
10. Others might say behind every great player is a great coach. Name the head coach of the New England Patriots with whom Brady makes up one of the "winningest" Coach/QB pairs in NFL history.

Answer: Bill Belichick

While all of the coaches listed are well known for being half of a Coach/QB power tandem; it is Bill Belichick who pairs with Tom Brady. Belichick and Brady were the first pair to reach 5 Super Bowl appearances together, and they raised the bar in 2015 with a sixth trip to the big game.

While it's easy to debate which coach or which quarterback or even which pair is the greatest ever, one cannot deny that those debates can't at least be held without mentioning the Brady/Belichick combo.
