Phelps became only the second athlete in any sport to receive eight total medals in a single Olympics and the first swimmer to do it. Aleksandr Dityatin was the first athlete to win eight gold medals. He did it in the 1980 boycotted Olympics in Moscow in the sport of gymnastics. Along with his six golds, Phelps won two bronze medals as well.

But Bhardwaj didn't go home empty-handed. She won a silver medal in the team competition.
