Answer: Philadelphia Athletics

In a feat which is virtually impossible to duplicate, Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy (Connie Mack) managed the Athletics from 1901-1950. He took the Athletics of the American League to nine World Series and won five. And more amazing, Philadelphia wasn't where his managerial career started. He managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1894-1896.

Answer: New York Mets

Although Torre managed all these teams, he started wearing his Burger King hat as a player-manager in 1977 with the Mets. This was his last season as a player. In 1982, he began three seasons with the Braves, before managing the Cardinals until 1995.

In 1996, George Steinbrenner hired him for the pinstripes replacing Buck Showalter, where Joe took the Yankees to a victorious World Series against the Braves.

Answer: Tom Lasorda

The others listed took at least nine seasons before they would see the promised land. It took Bobby Cox 10 years before his team saw a World Series game. It took Huggins nine seasons before he appeared in the series in 1921 with the Yankees. Fregosi waited 10 seasons.

After replacing long-time Dodger manager Walter Alston with only four games left in the 1976 season, Lasorda took the Dodgers who were rostered with Steve Yeager, Ron Cey, Steve Garvey, and Don Sutton to the 1977 promised land. Unfortunately, the Dodgers lost to the Yankees, four games to two. Lasorda took the Dodgers to the World Series the following season, but encountered the same results against the Yankees again. Sparky Anderson also went to the World Series in his first managerial season in 1970 with the Cincinnati Reds. Ralph Houk also did it with the 1961 Yankees.

Answer: Bobby Cox - Braves

The others were tossed only twice in the season. Cox of the Braves led the league with 11 heavings. Between 2000 and 2003, Cox led the Major Leagues by being tossed an amazing 29 times. In 2003, Bobby was in his 14th season with the Braves.

Answer: Connie Mack

It only seems proper that the manager with the most career games would lose the most also. Mack was not only the first to lose 3000 games, but almost topped the 4000 mark also. His career record was 3731-3948. 10 times, his Athletics lost 100+ games in a season. 134 of those losses were credited to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the late 1890s.

Answer: Jack McKeon

Anderson had his playing career condensed in the 1959 season. He appeared in 52 games in a Phillies uniform. Alston was not only a one season player, but he was a one at-bat player in 1936 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Tom Kelly made his spotlight with the 1975 Twins. McKeon never played in a Major League game in his life.

He did however manage the Royals, Athletics, Padres, Reds, and came to the Marlins in 2003, taking them to the World Series over the Yankees.

Answer: Casey Stengel

Robinson managed the club when they were the Robins from 1914-1931. Alston came along in 1954 as the big banana in Brooklyn, then made the move to Los Angeles with the club in 1958. Lasorda, who had been in the organization for many years already, took over the helm after Alston's illness in 1976, and kept his table set until 1996. Stengel managed the team for only three seasons from 1934-1936. Casey would later in 1949, begin a tremendous 12-season run with the Yankees, going to 10 World Series.

Answer: John McGraw

The others saw no more than three World Series, and even the great 50-season manager Connie Mack, went to only nine series. McGraw managed the New York Giants from 1902-1932. In that period, he took his Giants to 9 World Series and won three. There was no World Series in 1904, and the Giants won the NL pennant. McGraw also managed the Baltimore Orioles three seasons prior to becoming a Giant daddy.

Answer: Gene Mauch

The others listed never reached the 20-year managerial mark, and took their team to at least three World Series. From 1960-1987, Mauch came up empty handed with the Phillies, Expos, Twins, and Angels. His career record was 1902 against 2037 losses. The closest that Gene came to the promised land was a runner-up finish in 1964, when the Phillies finished one game behind the NL pennant winning Cardinals.

Answer: Pete Rose

The others managed for at least 10 seasons, and McKechnie led the list with managing for 25 seasons. Pete Rose managed the Reds from 1984-1989. They included four second-place finishes in their division. Rose's career managing record was 412-373.
