Team Urameshi fights Team Rukuyoukai in the first round of the Dark Tournament. Kuwabara fights Rinku and then Kurama fights Roto. Hiei fights Zeru, and once he quickly kills him with The Dragon of the Darkness Flame, the other two team members runs off, only to be killed by Chu, who we find out is the true leader of Team Rukuyoukai.

The only reason Kurama decided to help Hiei and Gouki steal the artifacts was so that he could get the Forlorn Hope and save his dying mother. The Forlorn Hope grants the greatest desire of whomever looks into the mirror, but the user must give their life in return. Kurama knows this, but is still willing to die for his mother's sake.

Kurama goes by several names in the series, Kurama being the most common. He is called Shuichi Minamino - his human name - by school friends and those who don't know he's a demon. Yoko Kurama is the name he is called while in his full demon form, and Kurama is what he goes by the rest of the time.

The Masked Fighter and Hiei were ruled ineligable to fight during the round against Team Masho, so it was three vs. five. Kurama decided to go first and would take out as many as possible, and then Yusuke would take over. Kurama first fought Gama and then Toya.

After he defeated Toya, he became unconcious while still standing in the ring, and the next fight was declared as Bakken vs. Kurama. However since Kurama was unconcious, he was unable to defeat the third member.

Kurama's purpose of going to Spirit World was to ask Koenma the true identity of the mastermind behind the tunnel. Kurama had a feeling that Koenma knew who it was, but purposely withheld information on the psychic because he knew the group wouldn't be able to defeat him - but they do.

When Kurama takes off Gourmet's skull, he plants the Sinning Tree's seed in him with his rosewhip. He then uses his smokescreen attack to hide his whereabouts until the tree has time to take effect. Since Elder Toguro is unable to die, and the Sinning Tree only releases its victims once they're dead, Elder Toguro will suffer in the tree for eternity.

First, Kurama defeats Game Master at his own game in his own territory. Second, Kurama defeats Gourmet, or Elder Toguro. Gourmet ate Toguro to take on his powers, but Kurama is able to plant the Sinning Tree's seed in his body and defeats him.

The Iduun Box is filled with smoke that causes the enemy to go back in years, until they are no more then a mere infant. However, with Kurama's strange case, the Box took him past the time he was born as a human and back to his demon years as Yoko Kurama.

Yoko Kurama and Kuronue were partners while Kurama was still living in Demon World. While fleeing with a priceless artifact, Kuronue's pendant is cut and he turns around to get it. It happened to be a trap, and Kuronue tells Kurama to run and save himself. We find out that Kuronue ended up dying from the trap.
