Although we did not know her name, Lexie (Chyler Leigh) appeared in the episode "Testing 1-2-3" as the girl who tries to pick up Derek (Patrick Dempsey) at Joe's Bar. She is in town after her mother's funeral and is having a terrible day. George (T.R. Knight) then meets Lexie in the third season finale. Lexie is among the crop of new interns who come into the locker room while George is cleaning out his locker.

She asks George for advice on working at Seattle Grace and introduces herself as "Lexie Grey." George is incredibly surprised to find himself face-to-face with Meredith's half-sister.

Lexie introduces herself in the middle of a trauma on her first day as an intern at Seattle Grace. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) is taken aback by her newfound half-sister and is stunned when George reveals that he knew who Lexie was. Lexie later apologizes to Meredith for the poor timing but Meredith does not want to talk to her.
