Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dastardly ...

Answer: Muttley

Premiering in September 1969, "Dastardly and Muttley" was one of two spin-offs of the very popular cartoon "The Wacky Races".
2. Augie Doggie ...

Answer: Doggie Daddy

"Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy" debuted in September 1959. Daws Butler (Huckleberry Hound, Chilly Willy) provided Augie's voice, and Doug Young (doing an imitation of comedian/character actor Jimmy Durante) did Doggie Daddy's.
3. SpongeBob SquarePants ...

Answer: Patrick Star

"SpongeBob SquarePants" debuted in July 1999. The wacky adventures of a good hearted, enthusiastic sea sponge and his undersea pals Squidward, Patrick the Starfish, and Sandy the Squirrel in the town of Bikini Bottom.
4. George of the Jungle ...

Answer: Ape

"George of the Jungle" debuted in September 1967. George is so dumb, he thinks his elephant, Shep, is a dog - so dumb, he doesn't know his mate, Ursula (whom he calls "Fella"), is female - so dumb, his Oxford-accented ape companion, Ape, often rolls his eyes at the futility of explaining anything to the thick-headed lout.
5. Quick Draw McGraw ...

Answer: Baba Looey

"The Quick Draw McGraw Show" debuted in September 1959. Between Quick Draw, who wore the star, and his sidekick, a burro named Baba Looey, there was about enough gray matter to make one good brain, and the second banana had most of it. Still, the series was entertaining enough - especially, the episodes in which Quick Draw assumed a Zorro-like persona called El Kabong.
6. Arnold ...

Answer: Gerald

"Hey Arnold" debuted in October 1996. Hey Arnold! is about life in the big city as seen through the eyes of a nine-year old boy with a football-shaped head".
7. Secret Squirrel ...

Answer: Morocco Mole

"The Secret Squirrel Show" debuted in October 1965. Yet another Hanna-Barbera classic. Secret Squirrel (or sometimes refered to as SS or Secret Agent 000), and his undercover companion Morocco Mole fight crime in a way that, well, only cartoon characters can... with that ultimate weapon, corny jokes.
8. Ruff ...

Answer: Reddy

"The Ruff and Reddy Show" debuted in December 1957. Today, an awful lot of people remember a Ruff & Reddy storyline in which they met aliens from the planet Munimula ("aluminum" spelled backward) - although many can't recall what cartoon it was associated with.
9. Mumbly ...

Answer: Shnooker

"Mumbly" debuted September 1976. A segment on "The Tom and Jerry/Grape Ape/Mumbly Show", this segment was about a detective dog (who looked and acted just like Muttley), aided by his assistant Shnooker, and the oddball mysteries they had to solve.
10. Punkin' Puss ...

Answer: Mushmouse

"Punkin' Puss and Mushmouse" debuted January 1964. Cat and mouse enemies/housemates in a hillbilly setting.
11. Mac ...

Answer: Tosh

"Goofy Gophers" debuted in January 1947. The Goofy Gophers were annoying (though cute), but their most irritating trait was extreme politeness. The personalities of Mac 'n' Tosh harkened back to cartoonist Frederick Burr Opper's Alphonse & Gaston, the overly polite Frenchmen who could never get anything done because neither would so much as walk through a door before the other.
12. Jonny Quest ...

Answer: Hadji

"Jonny Quest" debuted in September 1964. Jonny Quest was the first successful animated series to tell a straightforward adventure story instead of going strictly for laughs.
13. Tennessee Tuxedo ...

Answer: Chumley

"Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales" debuted September 1963. Besides Tennessee (a penguin), the zoo dwellers included Chumley (a walrus, and Tennessee's best pal), Baldy (an eagle), Yakkety (a yak) and Phineas J. Whoopee (whose reason for always being handy wasn't entirely clear).
14. Beany ...

Answer: Cecil

"Beany and Cecil" debuted in January 1962. In all its incarnations, Beany & Cecil is fondly remembered by its fans, for its wit, irreverence, outrageous puns, and appealing characters - not least of whom was the villain, Dishonest John, one of the most relentlessly cheerful bad guys in all cartoondom.
15. Krazy Kat ...

Answer: Ignatz

"Krazy Kat" debuted in February 1916. The original, animated Krazy Kat was created by International Film Services, Inc. as a silent cartoon.
16. Breezly ...

Answer: Sneezly

"Breezly and Sneezly" debuted in September 1964. Breezly Bruin was a scheming Polar Bear with his sidekick, Sneezly Seal.
17. Grape Ape ...

Answer: Beegle Beagle

"Grape Ape" debuted in September 1975. Grape Ape was a 40-foot purple ape, whose fast-talking, beagle buddy was a carnival hustler answering to the unlikely moniker of Beegle Beagle or "Beegley Beagley," as Grape Ape would lovingly refer to him.
18. Tom Terrific ...

Answer: Manfred

"Tom Terrific" debuted in June 1957. This cartoon had clever writing and fun, likeable characters. It featured the talent of voice actor Lionel Wilson, who played all the roles. As chief villain Crabby Appleton ("He's rotten to the core!"), Wilson would sneer and hiss in the best melodramatic tradition; while as Tom, his breathless enthusiasm made every little plot development seem like a major event.
19. Lippy the Lion

Answer: Hardy Har Har

"Lippy the Lion" debuted in September 1962. Lippy was, as the name implies, a lion; and Hardy was a rather dour-faced, non-laughing hyena. Their schtick was that Lippy would come up with a wonderful but unworkable scheme to achieve whatever goal he was after; but it was usually Hardy, the pessimistic one, who suffered worse from whatever consequences befell them as a result.
20. Tommy Pickles ...

Answer: Chuckie

"The Rugrats" debuted in August 1991. The Rugrats include, but are not limited to, Chuckie Finster, Angelica Pickles, Angelica's cousin Tommy, the twins, Phil and Lil DeVille, Susie Carmichael, and the youngest of the Pickles kids, Tommy's brother Dylan (aka Dil Pickles).
21. Clutch Cargo ...

Answer: Spinner and Paddlefoot

"Clutch Cargo" debuted in March 1959. Cambria Productions, which produced Clutch, had some clever ways of getting around the lack of budget for making the characters move. If an explosion rocked the scene, they'd shake the camera. If there was a fire, they'd blow real smoke across the drawing. Best-remembered of all is the technique they used to simulate lip movement - they'd film real lips speaking the lines, then superimpose them on the drawings using a process called Synchro-Vox.

This was a patented technique invented by cameraman Edwin Gillette and is still in use, most notably in Conan O'Brien's late-night TV show.
22. Top Cat ...

Answer: Benny

"Top Cat" debuted in September 1961. Other members of TC's gang were Choo Choo, Fancy-Fancy, Spook and The Brain. They all made their headquarters in Hoagy's Alley.
23. Eliza Thornberry ...

Answer: Darwin

"The Wild Thornberrys" debuted September 1998. Nigel is a wildlife show host who travels all over the world with his family taping shows for television. His wife, Marianne, is his photographer. They also have their kids along for the ride. Eliza, the youngest daughter, had a spell cast on her and she is able to communicate with all of the animals in the world. Debbie is the older sister and the snotty one. Darwin is a monkey that is prim and proper and wears clothes. Donny is a wild-child that they found and took with them while they were doing their traveling around the world.
24. Mr. Peabody ...

Answer: Sherman

"The Improbable History of Mr. Peabody" debuted in September 1959. Peabody was a cartoon series about a time-travelling dog and his pet boy, Sherman. Using Peabody's "Wayback Machine", the pair would take jaunts through history, and usually wind up instrumental in making events come out "right", i.e., the way they're depicted in history books.

The 91 four-and-a-half-minute episodes always ended with atrocious puns.
25. King Leonardo ...

Answer: Odie Cologne

"King Leonardo and His Short Subjects" debuted in October 1960. The King Leonardo segment had four principal cast members. King Leonardo (a lion) was the ruler of Bongo Congo, whose major export was bongo drums. Odie Cologne (a skunk) was Leonardo's faithful assistant, and a good "man" to have around - he was probably the only character on the show competent to run things.

Itchy Brother was Leonardo's brother, a flea-bitten dimbulb driven mainly by jealousy of Leonardo's throne. Biggie Rat was a high-level criminal whose function was to plan and execute Itchy's coup attempts.
