Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the episode 'A Change is as Good as a Rest,' who is the first (and only) person to resign?

Answer: Mr. Grainger

When the staff thinks they're about to be fired, they opt to resign first. They go in alphabetical order, men going first. But moments after Mr. Grainger resigns, they find out that they're actually being sent to children's toys.
2. What are the free items a customer would receive for buying a bottle of "His" or "Hers" perfume?

Answer: ties and stockings

The fact that ties and garter-grip stockings are being offered as a promotional gift for buying the perfume infuriates everyone on the floor, causing them to take drastic action.
3. In the episode "Diamonds are a Man's Best Friend," who had the real diamond?

Answer: Captain Peacock

Although everyone thought they had found the missing diamond, it turned out that most of them were fake and had fallen off of a dress. Only Captain Peacock had the genuine article!
4. In "The Punch and Judy Affair," why were the ladies' and gents' departments putting the show on in the first place?

Answer: Because they had broken the picket line

Although it might seem like they enjoyed putting on shows, and they did attempt to do the Ballet of the Toys for Young Mr. Grace's birthday, they infuriated just about everyone by breaking the picket line. As a conciliatory gesture, they put on the show.
5. In "Goodbye, Mrs. Slocombe," why isn't Miss Brahms given a promotion after Mrs. Slocombe is made redundant?

Answer: Because she's too young

Although Miss Brahms tries her best to get the promotion, she is turned down because she's too young.
6. When the ladies' department is forced to share space with the gentlemen in "Shoulder to Shoulder," how much space does Mr. Grainger give them for their displays?

Answer: one foot

And getting him to give them that much was a difficult undertaking.
7. Who is the object of Mrs. Slocombe's affections in "The Erotic Dreams of Mrs. Slocombe"?

Answer: Mr. Humphries

Mrs. Slocombe goes as far as buying Mr. Humphries gifts to win his affections, but all she does is terrify the poor man!
8. Who didn't get a Christmas dinner in "Christmas Crackers"?

Answer: Mr. Lucas

Because he didn't buy a ticket in advance, Mr. Lucas didn't get a Christmas dinner and had to settle for "halibut with holly." As it turned out, his dinner was probably the best of the lot.
9. In "New Look," whose voice was used to inform shoppers of special offers?

Answer: Young Mr. Grace

Everyone wanted the money that would've been paid to the one whose voice was used for the recording, but in the end, Young Mr. Grace liked only one voice...his own.
10. In the episode "Strong Stuff This Insurance," how much money would Mrs. Slocombe receive?

Answer: 700 pounds

A figure which makes her mad, especially since Captain Peacock, who she claims is close to her in age, would receive 1700 pounds.
11. What does Mr. Grainger suggest the staff give Mrs. Slocombe for her birthday in "Fifty Years On"?

Answer: a cyanide tablet

He soon amends this to two cyanide tablets, just in case the first one doesn't work!
12. In "Memories Are Made of This," who accidentally causes Mrs. Slocombe's injury?

Answer: Captain Peacock

Captain Peacock is showing off his golf stroke when the ball he hits smacks Mrs. Slocombe in the head, causing her to temporarily lose her memory.
13. In "Shedding the Load," who is the only member of the staff not to receive a vote to be fired?

Answer: Mr. Humphries

Everyone receives one vote except Mr. Humphries, who is unable to vote for someone else.
14. In the episode "Our Figures Are Slipping," what movie does Mr. Lucas invite Miss Brahms to see?

Answer: The Unsatisfied Virgin

The only other choice is "Bambi," which he's already seen.
15. In the pilot episode, what does Mrs. Slocombe display after Mr. Grainger gives her a little space on the center display stand?

Answer: a bra

Perhaps Mr. Grainger wouldn't have been so upset if the bra Mrs. Slocombe chose for the display hadn't been one that lights up!
