Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of General Melchett's pigeon which was shot and then eaten by Blackadder?

Answer: Speckled Jim

Blackadder saw the pigeon as an addition to his diet, but was promptly court-marshalled and sentenced to death by an outraged Melchett. He escaped this fate despite a mix-up between Baldrick and George.
2. Which actress played Nurse Mary in the "General Hospital" episode?

Answer: Miranda Richardson

Miranda Richardson played Nurse Mary who was Blackadder's only love interest in this series. She also played Queen Elizabeth I in the second series of Blackadder.
3. What was the name of Rik Mayall's character in "Private Plane"?

Answer: Lord Flashheart

Blackadder loathed Flashheart for his arrogant and conceited nature. He hated him even more when Flashheart rescued him from behind enemy lines, where Blackadder was expecting to spend the rest of the war in a convent, teaching home economics.
4. What was the name of the British propaganda magazine featured in the very first episode?

Answer: King and Country

Not suprisingly, Blackadder had no time for the jingoism displayed in "King and Country". He soon changed his mind when he saw a opportunity to get a painting published in the magazine thus enabling him to leave the trenches.
5. In "Major Star", what does Baldrick balance on his upper lip in order to impersonate Charlie Chaplin?

Answer: A slug

George and Baldrick both thought Charlie Chaplin to be hilarious. The cynical Blackadder had other ideas.
6. In the final episode Baldrick recites a poem consisting of one word "Boom", repeated several times. What did he call this "masterpiece"?

Answer: The German Guns

"Boom boom boom boom!" was the start of the poem, and the middle, and the end. George thought it was terrific.
7. In "General Hospital", who turned out to be the person relaying information to the Germans?

Answer: George

Blackadder was sent to the field hospital to identify a spy. Suspicion fell upon the German-sounding patient, Smith, but Blackadder falsely accused Nurse Mary. Only at the last minute was it realised that the injured George had been sending letters to his German uncle containing far too much information!
8. What was the name of George's pet rabbit which was savaged by Melchett's dog, run over by his car and was finally shot by the ever compassionate General?

Answer: Flossy

The General and George were discussing old times when this tragic story came to light. The end of the story has George refusing to eat poor Flossy.
9. In which battle did Blackadder save the life of Field Marshal Haig?

Answer: Mboto Gorge

Blackadder was a regular soldier before the war but was only used to fighting natives armed with fruit! Field Marshal Haig was being attacked by a woman carrying a sharpened piece of mango.
10. In "General Hospital" what codename did Melchett give to his plan to uncover the spy?

Answer: Operation Winkle

Blackadder saw this as yet another opportunity to leave the trenches.
He wasted no time in interrogating his arch-rival, Captain Darling, as well as "getting to know" Nurse Mary.
