Question 1 of 10
1. Our first UnSub may be one of the most well known in the history of this show. Known for being Aaron Hotchner's counterpart, he terrorized the people of Massachusetts for years, until he offered the lead detective on the case a deal and stopped killing, in exchange for the detective giving up on the case. After the detective died, he offered Hotchner the same deal, but Hotch turned it down. Furious at Hotch, this UnSub made it his mission to destroy Hotch's life. Who is this UnSub, who was killed in the episode "100"? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. This UnSub ended up on the B.A.U.'s radar when he and a team of his committed a series of murders in Washington D.C. He was on Emily Prentiss' radar long before that, as she knew him from her days at INTERPOL. Eventually, he abducted and tortured Emily, knowing she was part of the team responsible for his incarceration and believing that she was responsible for the death of his son. Eventually, he used a post to stab her dead (or so we thought). Who is this UnSub, who went by the code name "Valhalla"? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. While this UnSub didn't go after Agent Morgan specifically, the rage that said UnSub caused him made this person the choice for Morgan's counterpart. Dubbed "The Prince of Darkness" by the media, this killer roamed the country, robbing and killing people during power outages. What made Morgan so mad was when this UnSub mercilessly killed the detective working the case despite the detective surrendering, then abducting the detective's daughter. Like Aaron Hotchner did with his counterpart, Morgan killed this UnSub. Who is this UnSub, who had a profound impact on the Spicer family? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. The people in this group are bank robbers as well as murderers. This team of UnSubs was the choice for JJ's counterpart, as they targeted JJ's future husband (a Washington D.C. cop who responded to the call about the bank robbery they were committing) and son. Their end goal was to blow up Union Station in Washington D.C., but Prentiss was able to defuse the bomb. What is the name for this group, which consisted of Izzy Rogers, Chris Stratton, Oliver Stratton, and Matthew Downs? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. Penelope Garcia is the FBI tech analyst, so she spends most of the time near her computers, not out making enemies. However, she also counsels crime victims in her spare time, and one time she "tagged" multiple unsolved cases with the same UnSub. This guy thought that Garcia was onto him, so he asked her out on a date, then shot her at the end of it. What is the real name of this UnSub, who was able to infiltrate B.A.U. headquarters and take a hostage before being shot dead by JJ? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. David Rossi, when asked for his reason for returning to the team, cited "unfinished business" as his answer. The unfinished business, in this case, was a case Rossi worked in which the UnSub used an axe to murder two young parents and left their three children alive. Rossi, upon his revisiting the case with the team's help, realized that the killer must have worked at a carnival. Eventually, they revealed the killer, known only as Joe (no last name), was dressed as a clown, and had the mentality of a young child. This UnSub was brutally strong, with little to no understanding of what he was doing, so the team (Prentiss specifically) compared him to what literary character? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Known for being the stalker of Maeve Donovan, this UnSub was the choice for Reid's counterpart. Eventually, this UnSub actually went through with her threats and kidnapped Maeve. Even though the team learned the UnSub's identity early - the UnSub blew it when she referred to Reid as Doctor, despite the fact he was never introduced - this UnSub managed to stay one step ahead until she wanted to be found. When that happened, the UnSub committed a murder-suicide, killing herself as well as Maeve, breaking Reid's heart in the process. Who is this UnSub, who gave Reid a clue to her location by using the mathematical concept of pi? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This UnSub was possibly the most prolific serial killer in American history, killing more than 150 people. The choice for Gideon's counterpart, the UnSub was introduced in "No Way Out", in which Gideon and Morgan cornered him in a diner. He was able to leverage a busload of schoolchildren to get the FBI and local police department to let him go with his girlfriend (and creepily, the only person that survived his kidnappings) Jane. He returned later in the season, when Jane escaped and the UnSub thought the FBI had her, so he killed one of Gideon's old friends, as well as Rebecca Bryant, who the B.A.U. saved in a past case, until the FBI gave Jane to him, and they committed suicide. Who is this UnSub, who also had an affinity for strawberry milkshakes? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. This UnSub was one of the few to target the whole team. What he did was send everyone a clue - Reid got a key, Gideon got a severed head in a box and a Nellie Fox baseball card, JJ got a card with a rare butterfly, etc - and challenge them to put together all these clues to find his daughter, who he kidnapped. He only had one rule: Only members of the team could participate. When Gideon chose to break this rule, the bad guy retaliated by invading Elle's house and shooting her. Who is this UnSub, better known as The Fisher King? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. This UnSub, eventually revealed to be another FBI employee, was also known as "The Replicator", and for good reason: He/she replicated, or copied, some of the murders that the team had solved previously, including the case of John Nelson, who severed the legs of his victims and replaced them with the legs of other victims, and The Silencer, who sewed the mouths of his victims shut postmortem. Who is this UnSub, who liked to taunt the team and use the word "Zugzwang"? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: George Foyet

Foyet, also known as The Boston Reaper, was found and arrested in the episode "Omnivore", and that was that... Until the episode "... And Back", at the end of which he managed to break into Hotch's house and attack him, stabbing him repeatedly while purposely missing any vital organs. Over the early parts of season five, Foyet terrorized Hotch and his family. Eventually, he found Haley and Jack, and called Hotch to taunt him. Though Hotch was unable to save Haley, he was able to warn Jack to hide. Hotch found Foyet just in time, and the two of them fought hand to hand. Powered by rage, Hotch beat Foyet to death.

Answer: Ian Doyle

Doyle blamed Emily for the death of his son, though in reality nothing happened to the son; Emily helped get him safe. Doyle was stuck in a North Korean prison until he eventually escaped. He held Emily captive for a while, even branding his symbol, the four leaf clover, on her skin; however, the actual mark was never seen, the viewer just watched part of the process. Doyle was eventually killed in season seven - OK, technically it was between seasons six and seven, as season seven began with a Senate committee following Doyle's death, accompanied by flashbacks into the investigation, but the death was shown in season seven.

Answer: Billy Flynn

Two of Flynn's first kills were Detective Spicer's mother and father. Then, decades later, Flynn returned to California and killed Spicer himself. The team theorized, though it was never confirmed, that Flynn was so attached to Ellie Spicer (the daughter) because he felt that, by sparing Spicer decades earlier, that he was responsible for Ellie's life as well. Flynn always left one live witness in order to spread the word.

I also considered Carl Buford for this spot, because Buford molested Morgan when Morgan was a child. However, Flynn's killing spree spanned the country; Buford targeted Chicago boys, making Flynn's crimes more noteworthy.

Answer: The Face Cards

The Face Cards, particularly Rogers, targeted JJ's family. The plan was to strap the bomb to JJ's then-boyfriend, William Lamontagne Jr., and use that bomb to blow up Union Station, while Rogers threatened JJ's son Henry in order to make sure Lamontagne complied.

When Rogers made it to JJ's house, and JJ caught up, the two of them engaged in an epic fight that included JJ emptying the ammunition in Rogers' gun. Eventually, JJ's training in hand to hand combat paid off, as she was able to win the fight.

Answer: Jason Clark Battle

Battle, who introduced himself to Garcia as James Colby Baylor, was a police officer with a hero homicide complex, meaning he committed murders so he could show up at the scene and save the victims. Introduced in the episode "Lucky", he had much more screen time in "Penelope" as the main UnSub of the episode. Battle was brought in to B.A.U. headquarters to discuss the FBI's involvement in his cases, and he took an agent hostage when things went wrong. Luckily, the other profilers figured out the UnSub's identity and alerted JJ, who was doing work in her office at the time and was able to step in and shoot Battle dead before things got out of control.

Answer: Lennie, from 'Of Mice and Men'

Because Joe is mentally challenged, he didn't really even know what he was doing while he committed the murders. Because of this, he was overcome with remorse for his actions and, with some coercion from his father, gave little gifts to the children each year.

This was what clued the FBI in to the fact that he had the mentality of a child. Joe's father covered up the murders so Joe would not be arrested, though he brought Joe back to Indianapolis every year to remind him of what he'd done.

Answer: Diane Turner

This is another question where two different UnSubs could have been chosen for this agent's counterpart. In this case, some might argue that Tobias Hankel (of "The Big Game" and "Revelations"), rather than Turner, deserves the "honor" of being named Reid's counterpart.

However, two factors merited her inclusion on this quiz. First of all, the aftermath of Turner's attack on Reid was arguably more severe than Hankel's, as the murder of Reid's girlfriend turned him into an emotional wreck, as seen in the next episode, while the only long-term impact Hankel had was Reid's addiction to Dilaudid, which he eventually kicked. Second, Hankel had Dissociative Identity Disorder, but Tobias was essentially a good person; it was the personalities of Charles Hankel and Raphael that caused the problems. Turner chose to antagonize Reid.

Answer: Frank Breitkopf

Breitkopf, who first met Gideon while drinking a strawberry milkshake, killed by paralyzing people and then performing experiments on them while they were still aware of what was going on; he liked to see the fear in their eyes as they were being tortured.

He also liked to remove a rib bone from his victims. He used said rib bones to create sets of grotesque wind chimes for Jane. His murders, particularly that of Gideon's friend, eventually drove Gideon to retire from the B.A.U.

Answer: Randall Garner

When someone has to put together clues on a TV show, the clues almost always lead to one end point. In this case, the clues led the team to the book "The Collector" by John Fowles, published in 1963. They used a book code, which is a series of three-number sets (in this case, the first number means a page number, the second a line number on that page, and the third a word in that line), provided by the UnSub, in combination with the book, to lead them to Reid's mother, who was given the UnSub's address.

They found the address and saved the girl (in the nick of time, of course).

Answer: John Curtis

Curtis once had a promising career, but it started slipping when he was forced to transfer to Kansas. He blamed Erin Strauss for his decline, and thus killed her. Appearing throughout season eight, the team didn't really even know he existed until about the halfway point in the season; in the episode "Zugzwang", Reid received a call from Curtis, who simply said "Zugzwang"; Reid assumed that the call came from Maeve's stalker, Diane Turner.

It wasn't until JJ received flowers along with a card that also said "Zugzwang" that Reid was able to make the connection.
