Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How did Horace attempt suicide the first time in "Starting Over"?

Answer: He drank two bottles of laudanum

Sully and Doctor Mike went looking for Horace when the telegraph office never opened for the day. They found him in his room at the boarding house after he drank two bottles of laudanam. Doctor Mike called Myra back to Colorado Springs. Sully walked in on Horace trying to shoot himself as a second suicide attempt.

After that, Doctor Mike suggested a sanatorium to help with Horace's depression. Instead of going to the sanatorium, Horace followed Myra and Samantha back to St. Louis to spend Samantha's birthday with her.
2. Willy Nelson played Elias Burch in the 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman' episode titled "Legend". What was Burch's occupation?

Answer: U.S. Marshall

Elias Burch came to town right after Matthew was shot by one of the bank robbers. He, Sully, Doctor Mike, and Matthew captured the bank robbers without having to use their guns and brought them back to town.

FYI, for the flasback episode "Colleen's Paper", former characters were shown as guest stars on the final credits.
3. In which episode of 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman' was Sully banned from the Indian reservation?

Answer: Runaway Train

"Runaway Train" was the series opener from the fifth season of 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman'. Upon returning to retrieve Cloud Dancing from the army, Sully was fired and subsequently banned from the reservation where Cloud Dancing would be living.
4. In the flashback episode "Colleen's Paper", Colleen chose a memorable case of Doctor Mike's to write a paper on. What did Doctor Mike finally agree was her most memorable case?

Answer: Giving birth to Katie

While nursing Andrew back to health from Black Measles, Colleen and Doctor Mike remembered some of her unique cases. Flashbacks from each case were shown. After Andrew regained his health, Doctor Mike told Colleen, Sully and Brian her most memorable case was giving birth to Katie in the wilderness.
5. What was Reverend Johnson stricken with at Christmas that Doctor Mike couldn't cure, much to his and Brian's dismay in "Season for Miracles"?

Answer: Blindness

Reverend Johnson had an inflammation of the optic nerve that caused him to lose his sight. Everyone gathered at the church for a prayer meeting, but when Reverend Johnson had complete loss of his sight Doctor Mike began to doubt God. After speaking to Sully, Cloud Dancing, and praying to God, Doctor Mike convinced Reverend Johnson that he could still be a preacher and a guide to the townspeople.
6. What infamous poet did Preston invite to stay at the spa in "The Body Electric"?

Answer: Walt Whitman

Preston invited Walt Whitman the stay at his spa if he would give a poetry reading. Andrew wouldn't treat him due to the fact that he was a "sexual deviant". Doctor Mike didn't learn about Mr. Whitman being gay until Grace told him. When Preston and Reverend Johnson refused to hold the poetry reading, Sully built pews and a podium for Mr. Whitman to have his reading in the meadow.
7. Country music stars made many guest appearances on 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman'. Which country music legend starred in "All That Glitters" as Colleen's friend, Gilda St. Clair?

Answer: Barbara Mandrell

Gilda was a performer who was asked to come to Colorado Springs for a musical performance. Colleen travelled along with her in Gilda's train car. Doctor Mike saved Gilda's life by removing a polyp on her vocal chords that was restricting her breathing.

FYI, Katharine Elizabeth Sully was played by identical triplets Alexandria, McKenzie, and Megan Calabrese.
8. In "His Father's Son", Anthony was injured when he and Brian tried to jump on a train bound for Colorado Springs.

Answer: False

Anthony jumped on a train in Colorado Springs bound for Manitou so Brian could buy a miniature rocking chair for Doctor Mike to put into a doll house for Katie. They had to walk back to Colorado Springs because it was too dangerous to jump on another train back to Colorado Springs.

When another train came through on their journey back, Brian was knocked unconscious when he tried to jump on the train.
9. Who was the "Picket Fences" star who played Jake's father, Lucius Slicker in "Remember Me"?

Answer: Ray Walston

Lucius Slicker first came into Colorado Springs with a gold nugget. Doctor Mike diagnosed him with a heart problem and senile dementia. Lucius never recognized Jake, but moments before he died he spoke to Brian as if Brian were Jake. Jake and Brian buried Lucius next to his donkey, Penelope.
10. A literal cliff hanger ended the fifth season of "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" as Sully and Seargent O'Connor fell over a cliff. Was Doctor Mike there to witness Sully's plunge?

Answer: No

Doctor Mike and Dorothy didn't arrive at the cliff until after Sully and Seargent O'Connor fell over the cliff. Seargent O'Connor's body was found in the river, but Sully's body was never found. The season ended with Doctor Mike muttering that she knew Sully was alive.

FYI, at the time that "A Moment of Truth" was filmed, Joe Lando had yet to sign on for the sixth season.
