Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did the Winslows live?

Answer: Chicago

During the opening credits, their home in the suburbs could be seen along with the north side Chicago skyline.
2. We all remember the nerdy neighbor, Steve Urkel! When was he introduced into the cast of the show?

Answer: Midway through the first season

Urkel was not part of the original cast. He was brought in as a one-time guest in the middle of season one, but performed well enough to earn a spot on the show! The rest is history... "Did I do that?"
3. Carl Winslow, the title character and patriarch of the family, worked in which profession?

Answer: Police officer

"Family Matters" was a spin-off of "Perfect Strangers," where Jo Marie Payton (Harriette Winslow on "Family Matters") played the role of the quick witted elevator operator. Carl, of course, was a member of Chicago's finest.
4. Steve Urkel drove a very unique three-wheeled car and took several road trips in it. What was the make of this vehicle?

Answer: BMW

It was also used by circuses as the automobile of choice for clowns. Only 1000 or so of these cars exist in America these days.
5. How many children did Carl and Harriette have when the original pilot aired?

Answer: Three

Judi Winslow was the youngest, played by Jaimiee Foxworth (though another actress held that role for the pilot episode only). By the fourth season, the writers/producers wrote her character out of the show, moving forward as if Carl and Harriette only had two children to begin with.

It was speculated that her mother/agent was not happy with the amount of lines she was receiving per show, which caused a tiff with the show's brass; thus, no more Judi after season four!
6. What was Steve Urkel's nickname for Carl?

Answer: Big guy

Steve Urkel would generally use this term of endearment when Carl was not having a good day, e.g. "What's the matter, big guy?" It was another one of his catch phrases.
7. "Family Matters" ran for 8 seasons on "ABC". Which network bought the rights to the show in 1997?

Answer: CBS

CBS bought the rights to "Family Matters" and aired it for one season. It was part of their 'Block Party Line-Up'. Unfortunately, the show had lost luster and was cancelled by 1998.
8. Eddie's friend Waldo entered what profession?

Answer: Chef

He found prowess in this profession after high school and decided to go to culinary school.
9. Who played Steve Urkel?

Answer: Jaleel White

Unfortunately, Jaleel has been somewhat typecast, but has made a decent career for himself. Bryton McClure was Little Richie and Shawn Harrison was Waldo.
10. 'Oona from Altoona' was one of the few relatives who visited Steve Urkel - his aunt, who was like a mother to him. Who portrayed her?

Answer: Donna Summer

Steve Urkel's own family did not seem to want to visit him. According to the show, one of Urkel's relatives gave him the '60s BMW Isetta as a bribe to keep him from visiting.
