Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Make up' - In this episode all about Paz, an ex of his develops an obsession with him and tries to frame him for murder. Who does she kill?

Answer: Both of these

First she kills the face sculptor she used to create a replica of Paz. When he gets set up for the murder she then kills the cop working on the case to add weight to the accusations.
2. 'Make up' - After murder fails Paz' ex tries a new technique. Now that she has a replica of Paz himself, she has no need for him, so she tries to kill him. Who survives?

Answer: It never says

One of them dies, but it never actually says who. Batou tells the major that he thinks that Paz survived and since he carries on working for Section 9 you presume so, but it never actually confirms one way or the other.
3. 'Poker Face' - Saito relates when he first met the major, facing off against her in a sniping match, but which of these other Section 9 members isn't in the flashback?

Answer: Borma

This episode shows when Motoko first recruited Saito to section 9, but there are also appearances of the younger looking Ishikawa and Batou.
4. 'Poker Face' - This episode is another extended pastiche, this time of a Stanley Kubrick classic. Which was it?

Answer: Full Metal Jacket

After Saito finishes relating the story of how he first met the major, Azuma suggests that the whole story was merely a distraction from the poker game, saying he once saw a film that had the same theme. This is a direct hint to the Kubrick classic 'Full Metal Jacket' about UN peace keeping operations in Mexico.
5. 'Pat '- This episode is all about the Tatchikomas and their origin. Dr Assuda, the scientist who created the AI chip that is used in the Tatchikomas, wants to skip the country. Why is this?

Answer: He can't patent his work in Japan

He is a state sponsored scientist, therefore any technology he produces he cannot patent it himself. It goes straight to the government. So he wants to leave Japan and flee to North America where he believes he will get the proper credit for his work and be able to patent it himself.
6. 'Pat' - We find out an interesting little detail about the Tatchikomas and their AI chips. Where are the chips stored?

Answer: On a satellite in space

They are all stored on a satellite orbiting the earth in space. This is why the Tatchikomas have been having frequent out of body experiences.
7. 'Another Chance' - This episode explains the background of Kuze. What language does the reporter say that the word assassin comes from?

Answer: Arabic

He says that it stems from an Arabic word meaning 'one who smokes hashish'. There was a group of killers who would attack crusaders in the 11th century. They would smoke hashish and carry out the killings as if in a dream. When the crusaders saw this, they became afraid and they named them assassins. That is what the reporter accuses Kuze and his team mates of being in this episode.
8. 'Pat' - What military unit was Kuze attached to in the flash back in this episode?

Answer: The Self Defence Army

His unit was a special forces, all cyberized, unit of the SDA. Since they were fighting in the extreme cold Kuze and his unit were perfect for the job.
9. Character Profile Saito: Saito has few prosthetic body parts. One of them is his left eye. He has now got a very sophisticated cyber part. What is this technology called?

Answer: Hawk Eye

His Hawk Eye technology gives him the ultimate sniper sight, allowing him to use a satellite to see targets miles away to work out the perfect shot, making him the ultimate sniper.
10. Character Profile Saito: Excluding his left eye, what is the only other part of Saito's body that is prosthetic at this point? NOTE: Keep in mind this is 2nd Gig, before solid state society.

Answer: His left arm

Since he is left handed it wasn't great for him when Motoko stabbed him and pinned him to a wall with a knife right through his left hand. now a cyber hand and arm make for a steadier and stronger arm for the perfect shot.
