Great TV Heroines from the 2000s Quiz

This quiz is a tribute to my favourite 2000s TV heroines. The great ones are flawed but are still able to inspire us nonetheless. They may be fictional, but the love and respect we have for them is real.

Question 1 of 10
1. Our first heroine is a feisty teenage girl. All before the show starts, her best friend is murdered, her father is fired as town Sheriff, her mother leaves her, and she is ousted from the popular clique at school. Armed with her sardonic wit, she solves crimes, winning a few friends (and many fans) along the way. She has an unfortunate tendency of jumping to conclusions, keeping herself closed off and she had a terrible taste in boys, but everyday she inspires to fight for what you believe in, to know yourself and stay true to yourself. Who is this great TV heroine? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. This heroine is a single mom raising her daughter in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. She's known to be very selfish and incapable of change - breaking off not one, but two, engagements. However, she's inspiring because she's independent. She knows what she wants and she was able to venture out on her own and get the life that she wanted. Who is this inspiring TV heroine? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. This heroine is a mean mom. Seriously, she never lets her sons or husband have any fun, constantly thwarting their plans to keep them from getting into trouble. She is domineering and bossy, so much so that her eldest son, Francis, fears her more than his drill instructor at military school. But she is hard-working and caring, able to keep her family together. What show features Lois, this stalwart mother? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Our next TV heroine was a smart high school student, but then after graduating, she jumps on a plane and moves across the country chasing after the love of her life - or, he will be, once they talk to each other. This girl is impetuous and extremely indecisive - going from Ben to Noel and back again, but there's something inspiring about a studious girl following her heart, and always following her heart no matter what. Who is this impulsive heroine? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This heroine is a forensic pathologist who solves crimes with the help of her retired father, a police detective. She was greatly emotionally scarred by the murder of her mother when she was a child, and as such has deep-seated trust issues and doesn't let herself love anybody, but she knows that about herself. She's smart, inquisitive and throws herself headlong into work knowing that one day, when she's ready, she can let somebody else into her life. What show features this analytical heroine? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Our next heroine, PJ Franklin, is just one of the boys. She covers Chicago Cubs games for the local newspaper, hosts Thursday poker nights, cheers on the Chicago Bears on the weekends, and hangs out at the local pub every other night. She can be way too competitive and too 'guy-y' and not 'girlie' enough for most men she tries to date. Over the course of the show, PJ actually takes the advice of her best gal pal and other friends to incorporate some feminine qualities, along with her baseball knowledge, to put her best self forward. Which show features this tomboy heroine? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Our next heroine is young but already has a long list of life regrets. By chance, she meets a therapist, Dr. Tom, who allows her to go back in time and re-experience all her important life moments. She's lacking in self-esteem and is judgemental, but she dives in head-first into this unknown and logically unreal situation so she can apply her book-smarts to herself and learn how to be happy with her life. Which show features this time-travelling heroine? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. This heroine fights vampires. I think that alone makes her one of the toughest girls out there in TV land. Like many tough heroines, she has a tendency to be stubborn with a short temper and she also has a bad history with boyfriends (not one, but two, destructive vampires). But this heroine is inspiring with her physical and mental strength, and her impressive ability to come back from the dead. What actress plays the ground-breaking heroine Buffy Summers, the vampire slayer? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. This heroine is just trying to have it all. So if you'll excuse her, she'll be in her office trying to write a TV show, trying to keep her actors from getting into trouble, trying to keep her boss from meddling in her life, trying to have a baby, trying to meet a super cute guy (preferably an astronaut named Mike Dexter), and do it all before she dies. This heroine can't make up her mind at all, has terrible eating habits, and has extreme intimacy issues, but she's inspiring because she's just trying to live her life the best she can like everybody else. Who is this 'every-woman' heroine? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Our final heroine is a lawyer. She's young, smart and beautiful and landed a good job with Cage & Fish. But she has frequently found herself in trouble (in both the real world and the show's world) for wearing short skirts and being too skinny. She's also selfish, neurotic and flighty (often finding herself in her own imaginary world). But what her detractors don't mention is that she's passionate - for the law, for her friends, for life, and she's also a romantic at heart. She always tries to see the best in people and in herself. Who is this great heroine with her infectious optimism? Hint

2. This heroine is a single mom raising her daughter in the fictional town of Stars Hollow. She's known to be very selfish and incapable of change - breaking off not one, but two, engagements. Lauren Graham was nominated for one Golden Globe award and two SAG nominations for her portrayal of the fast-talking, pop culture junkie Lorelai.
3. This heroine is a mean mom. Seriously, she never lets her sons or husband have any fun, constantly thwarting their plans to keep them from getting into trouble. But she is hard-working and caring, able to keep her family together. What show features Lois, this stalwart mother?

Answer: Malcolm in the Middle

"Malcolm in the Middle" (2000-2006) stars Jane Kaczmarek as the stubbon matriarch Lois, Bryan Cranston as her immature husband Hal, Christopher Marsterson as her trouble-making son Francis, Justin Berfield as the idiotic Reese, Erik Per Sullivan as the chilish Dewey and Frankie Muniz as the mal-adjusted genius Malcolm. Most episodes feature her sons doing or planning something not necessarily illegal but just plain stupid. Lois is always the one to have to punish them to attempt to keep the family functioning.

Answer: Felicity Porter

"Felicity" (1998-2002) stars Keri Russell as Felicity and Scott Speedman and Scott Foley as her two love interests. After Felicity follows Ben all the way to the fictional University of New York, she tries to win him over and then finds herself torn between two men, as well as actually attending classes.

In its first season, the show was well received and its heroine was referred to as a refreshing 'lost soul'. In its second season, however, Felicity got her hair cut and the ratings dropped. The ratings continued to drop each year and after four seasons the show was cancelled.

Answer: Crossing Jordan

"Crossing Jordan" (2001-2007) stars Jill Hennessy as Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh the forensic pathologist with the Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Her character was serving anger management training before the series started due to her extreme passion, but the show begins when she is re-hired since she always wins her cases.

The main gimmick of the show is watching Jordan play the victim and her father play the detective as they re-create what happened to help her solve the cases.

Answer: My Boys

"My Boys" (2006-2010) stars Jordana Spiro as PJ Franklin, a tomboy sports-writer. The show frequently features PJ applying baseball metaphors to dating and other obstacles in her life. Her boys include Brandon, her best friend from college; Andy, her brother; Bobby, her potential love interest, and friends Mike and Kenny.

She has referred to her best friend Stephanie as being "girlie enough for the both of them."

Answer: Being Erica

"Being Erica" (2009-2011) stars Erin Karpluk as Erica Strange in this well-received Canadian show. Erica's main regret is the death of her brother Leo and season 1 leads up to the episode where Erica goes back to "un-do" his death, but one of the overall themes of the show is that nobody can play God.

The show was created by Jana Sinyor and after four seasons, she felt the show had come to its natural conclusion.

Answer: Sarah Michelle Gellar

The movie version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992) stars Kristy Swanson in the titular role, but the TV version (1997-2003) stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as the young heroine, and picks up where the movie left off. 15 year-old Buffy, newly ordained as a vampire slayer, moves to Sunnydale with her mother and fights to keep the world safe from vampires, demons and other monsters of the night.

Answer: Liz Lemon

"30 Rock" (2006-2013) stars Tina Fey as the neurotic Liz Lemon. Fey also served as the creator and head-writer for the show. Liz Lemon works as a writer for a variety series called "TGS" (similar to "Saturday Night Live") and is trying to work out her own life amidst the chaos of everyone around her. Tina Fey won two Golden Globe awards, one Emmy, and four SAG awards for her portrayal of Liz Lemon.

Answer: Ally McBeal

"Ally McBeal" (1997-2002) stars Calista Flockhart as the eccentric Ally McBeal. Ally leaves her first job due to sexual harassment but immediately starts working at Cage & Fish alongside her ex-boyfriend. Throughout the show she is on a life-long quest for her perfect man.

The show received a lot of criticism because of the character of Ally but was successful throughout its first two seasons. The ratings were revived in season 4 by the addition of Robert Downey, Jr. to the cast, but the show was cancelled after a disappointing fifth season.
