Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the season 3 episode "Wishin' and Hopin'", a cancer patient was discovered to have neurotoxins in her blood which caused the hospital staff to become faint and lose consciousness. Which attending physician was NOT exposed to the neurotoxins in the patient's blood?

Answer: Mark Sloan

Mark Sloan refused to participate in finishing the afflicted patient's surgery, saying it would be "irresponsible" for the remaining attending to be exposed to the toxins. How nice of him to be so considerate.

George O'Malley was an intern and the first to be exposed, and Richard Webber was exposed during the initial surgery. Callie Torres was not exposed to the toxins, however she was not an attending.
2. Which of the following physicians was not treated for illness or injury at Seattle Grace Hospital in season 2?

Answer: Meredith Grey

Meredith Grey became afflicted with appendicitis and later drowned, but that was not until season 3, so during season 2 her only maladies were a broken heart over losing Derek to his wife, Addison.

George O'Malley dislocated his shoulder and had it reset, which is how he first met his future wife, the orthopedic goddess Callie Torres.

Addison Montgomery-Shepherd asked Miranda Bailey to examine her below the belt, where it was discovered she had poison oak and Dr. Bailey prescribed a lotion.

Mark Sloan, while not yet a full time cast member, was introduced in Season 2 where he visited Seattle Grace to get Addison back. Derek saw him talking to Meredith and gave him a quick and heavy punch that left a cut on his face. When Meredith started to suture him, he told her to just "hold the mirror" while he stitched his own face.
3. Which physician discovered she was pregnant in season 1?

Answer: Cristina Yang

In season 1, episode 7 "The Self-Destruct Button", Cristina discovered that she did not have the flu, but was in fact pregnant as shown by two pregnancy test sticks. She lost the baby due to an ectopic pregnancy causing her to collapse while assisting with a surgery.

Addison Montgomery-Shepherd we later discovered in season 3 was pregnant in the past however it was prior to her being on the show and was never discussed until the week of what would have been the baby's due date. Miranda Bailey did not become pregnant until season 2, which was also when she gave birth to her baby. Meredith Grey in season 3 was suspected to be pregnant however it was quickly determined that she was suffering from appendicitis.
4. How many times was Dr. Preston Burke admitted to Seattle Grace Hospital?

Answer: 2

Dr. Burke was admitted to the hospital twice in connection with his gun shot wound that he sustained at the end of season 2. The first time was when he was shot, and then the second time was in season 3 when Derek operated on his right arm again in order to remove a tremor that was interfering with his ability to perform surgery.
5. What did Izzie fear that everyone would call her when they discovered that she had cancer?

Answer: Swiss Cheese for Brains

When Izzie revealed her diagnosis to Cristina, one of the reasons that she was reluctant to tell the rest of the group is because of a facial transplant patient that some of the staff members were referring to as "Blow Hole". She asked what they were going to call her, "Swiss Cheese for Brains"? Cristina said, "No, that's long and awkward.... 'Blow Hole's' pithy."
6. What was Chief Webber's first surgery upon returning to work following the removal of his tumor?

Answer: The reattachment of a patient's leg

During the season 2 episode "Into You Like a Train", Chief Webber demanded that Derek "Clear me for surgery or you're fired." He took on a patient who arrived with a severed leg. When Cristina tried to tell him they had the wrong leg, he went into a tirade about everyone questioning his ability to perform.
7. When Meredith was drugged with morphine for appendicitis in season 3, which of the following embarrassing things did she NOT do?

Answer: Called Dr. Sloan "McDreamy" to his face

When Meredith was being wheeled to surgery, she spotted Mark Sloan and said "McSteamy!"... not "McDreamy", which is Derek's nickname.
8. Which of the following [patient - treating surgeon] pairs is correctly matched?

Answer: Preston Burke - Derek Shepherd

Dr. Shepherd operated twice on Dr. Burke in connection with his injured arm. Addison Montgomery-Shepherd was Cristina's surgeon when she had the ectopic pregnancy in season 2, and Derek Shepherd was Izzie's surgeon in season 5 to remove her tumor. Erica Hahn never operated on Meredith.
9. What type of case did Ellis Grey try to assist with while she was a patient at Seattle Grace?

Answer: gunshot wound

While Alex Karev was looking at an X-ray of a patient's skull, Ellis Grey came in dressed in scrubs and said it was a bullet. She then told the staff they should be getting him prepped for surgery. Derek Shepherd walked in and told her that was an excellent diagnosis, at which time George came in with a wheel chair and said "Dr. Grey, they need you upstairs."
10. Who was the first person Meredith saw after waking up from her near-death experience?

Answer: Cristina Yang

When Meredith was revived, all the doctors left the room except Cristina. Meredith then started to wake up, and Cristina demanded that she say something to show she wasn't brain damaged, to which Meredith said "ouch".
