Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the very first episode of "ER", which happened to be a two-hour-long special, what nationally recognized day was it, according to the episode?

Answer: St. Patrick's Day

Although the episode originally aired on September 19th, there were "Happy St. Patrick's Day" decorations up in the ER. Bright green shamrocks also could be seen. If that didn't clue viewers in to the fact that it was St. Patrick's Day in the ER, Doctor Susan Lewis mentioned it herself while diagnosing a patient with cancer.
2. In the "ER" episode, "The Gift", Chloe announces her pregnancy, Peter Benton says that a dying man's organs are "up for grabs" before getting consent, and Carter decides to make a move on Susan. What holiday season was it during this episode?

Answer: Christmas

During the episode "The Gift", Christmas is mentioned, or implied, a few times. For example, John Carter was Susan's "Secret Santa". Chloe was putting up a red Christmas ball ornament on Susan's Christmas tree that said "Susan" on it. Chloe then mentioned that she was going to name the baby Susan. "What baby?" was Susan's reply.
3. In the season one Valentine's Day episode "Make of Two Hearts", which of the following didn't happen?

Answer: Dr. Greene's daughter, Rachel, was asked out by a boy

Rachel was only supposed to be six-years-old when this episode aired, and she wasn't even in this one. At this point in the series Jing-Mei Chen is only known as "Deb" Chen. Deb had eaten some of the chocolates that had just been sitting in a room next to the two girls who had eaten them when their boyfriends tricked them with LSD-laced Valentine's chocolates.

She hadn't known any better. Dr. Kayson had recently been through a heart attack, and because Susan had helped him during the attack, had acquired a newfound affection for her. Tatiana was a 6-year-old girl who knew no English.

She had recently been adopted from Russia, but her foster mother abandoned her because Tatiana had advanced AIDS.
4. In the season two episode "A Miracle Happens Here", who brought Chanukah to the ER?

Answer: A Holocaust survivor who happened to be the victim of a carjacking

The woman had been in the car with her granddaughter, yet luckily the infant was found and brought back to her grandmother. The tattooed numbers on her arm showed that she had been a survivor of a concentration camp. Near the end of the episode, the woman's entire family came in.

The woman said, "You'll ruin the children's Chanukah!" But instead, they celebrated right there in the hospital (Mark gave them the doctor's darkened lounge).
5. In the season three Halloween special, Peter Benton takes a group of kids who would have had to have been stuck in the hospital on Halloween night trick-o-treating. What was that episode called?

Answer: Ghosts

"Ghosts" originally aired on All Hallows Eve (October 31st) in 1996. The other titles I just made up!
6. In 1996 Christmas episode "Homeless for the Holidays", Mark wants to give a dog he inherited from a patient to Rachel.

Answer: True

Some other events that occurred during this episode are Carol and her mother hosting a Russian Christmas celebration that Doug attended.
7. In the season five Halloween themed episode "Masquerade", an 11-year-old girl is brought into the ER. When surgery is being performed on her, it is determined that she is genetically male. What was the girl's name?

Answer: Barbie

The poor girl is still a girl- she still wanted to know if her Halloween costume tiara made her look pretty. Elizabeth told her it did. Romano said, in his own, cruel ways, that maybe they should have named her "Ken". When the doctors spoke with Barbie's parents, they said she'd probably need counseling, and need to have it explained to her that she will never get her period and never be able to bear children.
8. In the season five episode "The Miracle Worker", what is supposed to be the miracle?

Answer: An adolescent female with a rare blood type is in need of an organ donation, and a brain-dead man with that blood type happens to be in the hospital at the same time.

It is actually during the next episode, "Nobody Doesn't Like Amanda Lee", that Peter first goes to see a deaf physician regarding Reese's deafness. Reese never regains any of his sense of sound. During the episode, "The Miracle Worker", Jerry sees Dr. Amanda Lee going through Dr. Mark Greene's locker, and concludes that she's stalking him.
9. In the season six episode "Great Expectations", it is Thanksgiving Day. Part of the storyline is that Carol goes into labor, and delivers one of her twins in the ER, and the other through an emergency cesarean section in obstetrics. Who was the OB nurse who helped Carol?

Answer: Abby Lockhart

This was Maura Tierney's first ever appearance on "ER". She plays the role of Abby Lockhart, who originally started off as an OB nurse, but then switched to nursing under emergency medicine and finally became a doctor in the ER.
10. In one of the season six holiday themed episodes, Lucy visits Romano's house simply to help a dying patient, Carol takes the twins to the ER because Kate has a fever, and Carla tells Peter that Reese won't have to leave Chicago after all. What episode was it?

Answer: How the Finch Stole Christmas

I took all the incorrect answers from previous questions in my quiz! "The Gift" was in season one, "The Miracle Worker" was in season five, and "Great Expectations" was the previous episode in season six- the Thanksgiving episode! "How the Finch Stole Christmas" originaly aired on December 16, 1999.
