Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The main character, Gregory House MD, is played by which actor who is also known for his more traditionally comedic roles?

Answer: Hugh Laurie

Hugh Laurie is an English actor known for his comedic ability. He was hilarious in "Blackadder", and used to have a show with partner Stephen Fry, called "A bit of Fry and Laurie". I can also recall seeing him in an episode of one of my favourite TV shows of all time, "The Young Ones". He appeared in the episode "Bambi" as Lord Monty.
2. There is an Aussie actor in the cast line-up. Who is it?

Answer: Jesse Spencer

He also starred as Neal in the Brittany Murphy film "Uptown Girls" - the film-clip to the song "Sheets Of Egyptian Cotton" showed him wearing the jacket that he thought she had ruined! Omar Epps plays Dr Eric Foreman, Robert Sean Leonard plays Dr Wilson and Lisa Edelstein plays Dr Lisa Cuddy. I also remember Robert Sean Leonard from the movie "I Was A Teenage Vampire" in which he played the lead role of Jeremy Capello.
3. In the episode "Paternity", what common childhood illness caused the teenage boy's illness?

Answer: Measles

The boy was adopted and his birth mother had not been immunized as a child, so he received no natural immunity from her.
4. Sticking with the episode "Paternity", how does the boy already know that he is adopted?

Answer: The cleft in his chin

The staff bet on the outcome of paternity tests on the boy. Cuddy gets angry at House and makes him pay for the ELISA tests on the patient's adopted parents, and he pays her with the money he collected as his winnings!
5. House has continuous pain in his right leg. Which narcotic drug do we see him popping like lollies?

Answer: Vicodin

Vicodin is a painkilling drug containing hydrocodone and acetaminophen (paracetamol in Australia). Check out the website http://www.drugs.com/vicodin.html for more information on this drug that is House's choice!
6. House treats a man in the clinic whose skin has turned orange. What piece of handy information does House give him?

Answer: Your wife is having an affair

The patient came in to the clinic complaining of back pain. Dr House advises the man that since his skin has turned orange, and his wife has not said anything about it to him, she is obviously having an affair. Turns out he was right!
7. In the pilot episode, Dr Wilson lies to Dr House to convince him to accept a patient. Dr Wilson tells Dr House that the patient is his cousin. What name does Dr Wilson use when he refers to the patient?

Answer: Rachel

The lady's correct name is Rebecca. Dr House later admonishes Dr Wilson for lying to him, but as House himself is fond of saying "Everybody lies".
8. Which R'n'B artist guest stars in "DNR"?

Answer: Brandy

Brandy guest stars as the artist whom John Henry Giles is visiting in a recording studio when he develops respiratory problems.
9. In the episode "Histories", when the homeless patient starts to seize, what is Foreman's initial diagnosis?

Answer: Faking it

"Two things homeless people are good at. Getting sick and running scams." When Dr Wilson takes her BGL, he discovers her sugar is low. However Dr Foreman is still not convinced that she isn't faking it.
10. In the episode "Histories", Dr Wilson finds Dr House sitting in his clinic room, reading Dr Foreman's personnel file. When Dr Wilson states "You really don't need to know everything about everybody", how does House respond?

Answer: "I don't need to watch 'The O.C.', but it makes me happy"

Another wonderfully sarcastic retort from House - one of the many reasons we love the guy! On disc 6 of the March 2006 Australian released box set (region 4) containing all the first season episodes, there is a special feature entitled "Houseisms". Hugh Laurie is interviewed for this segment, and he enjoys being Dr House.
11. How much pain killing medication is House taking per day?

Answer: 80mg

Cuddy tells House that this is twice the amount of Vicodin he was taking when she hired him. House responds by saying it is because Cuddy is "twice as annoying as you were then." (From the episode "Detox".)
12. Whenever Dr House goes to visit Dr Cuddy in her office, he passes through a glass door. What does it say on the door?

Answer: LISA CUDDY MD - Dean of Medicine

Dr Lisa Cuddy's position is Dean of Medicine. She is the person who hired Dr House.
13. What is the name of the institution where Dr House (and all the others) work?

Answer: Princeton - Plainsboro Teaching Hospital

It is because it is a teaching hospital that Dr House is forced to do clinics, which he hates. Dr House can often be found playing with his GameBoy SP, or watching his favourite soap opera instead of examining patients in the clinic.
14. Who guest stars in the episode "Three Stories" as herself?

Answer: Carmen Electra

Carmen Electra guest stars as herself in this episode, which sees House being forced to present a lecture on diagnostic techniques. When asked why Carmen Electra was being presented as a patient, House replies that it is his fantasy.
15. What is the first name of Dr House's former lover, whom he lived with for five years?

Answer: Stacy

Stacey comes to House to ask for his help with her new husband who was ill. House initially didn't want to help, but in the end he does.
I hope you enjoyed this quiz on the first season of "House M.D.". Thank you for playing.
