Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What actor portrayed both Clark Kent and Superman?

Answer: George Reeves

George Reeves' first movie role was as Stuart Tarleton in "Gone With The Wind". Born George Brewer in 1914, he was discovered while in a stage play. After the "Adventures Of Superman" series ended in 1957, his career declined and "typecasting" made it difficult for him to find acting roles. He became an exhibition wrestler and sadly, committed suicide in 1959.
2. Who portrayed "cub reporter" Jimmy Olsen?

Answer: Jack Larson

Believe it or not, Jack retired from acting shortly after the series ended. He went on to become a prominent playwrite, and opera librettist. Jeepers!
3. Kellogg's Frosted Flakes was the major sponsor of the series. What is the name of their cartoon spokesman?

Answer: Tony The Tiger

Tony would always refer to the cereal as "Great", beginning the word "Great" with a growl.
4. Editor Perry White was portrayed by veteran actor John Hamilton. What was Perry's favorite retort when angry?

Answer: Great Caesar's Ghost!

John Hamilton had many small movie roles prior to the series. The most notable were "The Maltese Falcon" (as the District Attorney) and "On The Waterfront".
5. Two actresses played the role of Lois Lane. Who was the first Lois?

Answer: Phyllis Coates

Phyllis, whose birth name was Gypsy Stell, played her own mother in "Lois And Clark - The New Adventures Of Superman" in 1993!
6. Jimmy was always getting Perry mad by calling him what name?

Answer: chief

Perry would pound on the table and bellow "Don't call me chief" at the top of his lungs.
7. The second Lois Lane was played by which of the following?

Answer: Noel Neill

Noel retired shortly after the series ended. Interestingly, she teamed up with George Reeves briefly in 1957 in a nightclub act where she sang and played an upright bass!
8. The last major role in the series was that of Inspector Henderson. What was his first name?

Answer: Bill

Bill Henderson was played by Robert Shayne, the only member of the cast aside from Phyllis Coates to continue in films. During his career he appeared in over one hundred feature films.
9. Professor Twiddle and Uncle Oscar were recurring roles for this actor, who would later gain fame as the voice of Winnie The Pooh.

Answer: Sterling Holloway

Professor Twiddle was in the memorable "Time Barrier" episode where His "time machine" took Clark, Lois, Perry, Jimmy back to the stone age.
10. There was a two-part episode in the series.

Answer: True

"Superman and the Mole Men" was actually the show's first two episodes re-edited by Lippert Pictures into a one hour "pilot". As an aside, I loved the show, but I just couldn't figure out why nobody recognized Superman behind Clark's glasses!
