Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dinobot
Answer: Both
Dinobot was one of the original Predacons but he switched to being a Maximal after an unsuccessful attempt to take over leadership of the Predacons. He regarded himself as a true warrior and eventually lived up to that title: giving his life to save a tribe of prehistoric humans.
His beast mode was a velociraptor.
2. Optimus Primal
Answer: Maximal
Tough but kind-hearted, Optimus Primal was leader of the Maximals. He and his crew were exploring the galaxy when they were called on to intercept a Predacon ship due to the theft of the Golden Disk, an ancient Maximal relic.
His beast mode was a silverback gorilla.
3. Megatron
Answer: Predacon
Leader of the Predacons, Megatron was an intelligent and ruthless villain, intent on taking control of the entire universe. Although he had the ability to strategically plan his attacks, things didn't always go the way he wanted them to.
His original beast mode was a T-Rex, but changed to a dragon just before the end of the series.
4. Cheetor
Answer: Maximal
The youngest of the original Maximals, Cheetor was a big ball of energy, always wanting to prove his worth to his team-mates. Throughout the series, fans watched him grow from an inexperienced kid to a more mature adult.
His beast mode was a cheetah.
5. Waspinator
Answer: Predacon
A favourite character of many 'Beast Wars' fans (myself included), Waspinator had a tendency to get blown to bits so many times it's easy to lose count. Most importantly, by the time the series ended, only two original Predacons were still living: Megatron and....Waspinator!
His beast mode was a giant wasp.
6. Depth Charge
Answer: Maximal
A moody and not always friendly Maximal, Depth Charge was Head of Security at Colony Omicron, that is, until 'Protoform X' escaped and destroyed the colony. Depth Charge was the only survivor. 'Protoform X' was later captured, sealed inside a giant stasis pod and handed over to Optimus and his crew to be dumped on an uninhabited planet. Depth Charge wasn't happy about this and he searched the galaxy until finally finding 'X' on prehistoric Earth.
His beast mode was a manta ray.
7. Tigatron
Answer: Maximal
Stasis pods were a way of introducing new characters. We first see these pods when they're ejected into orbit from the Maximal ship just before it crashes to Earth. Every so often, a pod would fall from orbit, and it was then a race to see who could get to the pod first. Each pod contained a Maximal protoform, but if the Predacons reached the pod first, the protoform could be re-programmed, so the new arrival would be a Predacon rather than a Maximal.
Tigatron was the first of these new characters. We first meet him in the episode "Fallen Comrades", when his stasis pod crashes in the frozen Arctic. Towards the end of this episode, Megatron attempts to re-programme the new protoform. However, all the pod's vital systems have been activated, so Megs gets quite a surprise when he finds the pod is empty. Tigatron then makes his presence known.
His beast mode was a white tiger.
8. Rampage
Answer: Predacon
Rampage certainly deserves his name. Formerly known as 'Protoform X', he was the result of an experiment gone wrong when the Maximal elders attempted to recreate the indestructible spark of the Decepticon, Starscream. Unlike others, Rampage had no choice in regards to which side he was on, as Megatron surgically removed half of Rampage's spark and, therefore, was able to control him.
His beast mode was a king crab.
9. Inferno
Answer: Predacon
One of the more psychotic Predacons, Inferno made his first appearance in the season one episode "Spider's Game". Unlike some other characters, his stasis pod had a rather smooth landing. However, Tarantulas reached the pod first and was able to replace the Maximal programming chip with a Predacon one.
His beast mode was a giant fire ant.
10. Terrorsaur
Answer: Predacon
My personal favourite, Terrorsaur was a Predacon that you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of. Whilst lacking a bit in the intelligence and courage departments, Terrorsaur was still a powerful fighter (and his constant attempts to overthrow Megatron were hilarious).
His beast mode was a pteranodon.
11. Quickstrike
Answer: Predacon
We first meet Quickstrike in the season two episode "Coming of the Fuzors, part one". His stasis pod is so badly damaged after landing that its DNA scanners actually scan two animals for his beast mode rather than just one and he emerges as a Predacon without the pod being reprogrammed.
His beast mode is half scorpion/half cobra.
12. Rattrap
Answer: Maximal
A Maximal from beginning to end, Rattrap was always acting as if he knew everything there was to know and his constant arguments with Dinobot were always a great source of entertainment for many 'Beast Wars' fans.
His beast mode was a rat.
13. Silverbolt
Answer: Both
We first meet Silverbolt in the season two episode "Coming of the Fuzors, part one", alongside Quickstrike. Although he emerges as a Predacon, it's not long before he switches sides, joining the Maximals.
His beast mode was half timber wolf/half golden eagle.
14. Rhinox
Answer: Maximal
Big, strong and intelligent, Rhinox was the tech-head of the Maximal team, inventing many useful devices including the high-tech security system, Sentinel.
His beast mode was a rhinoceros.
15. Tarantulas
Answer: Predacon
One of the six original Predacons, Tarantulas was a psychotic, sadistic and scheming mad scientist and was later revealed to be a Lieutenant of the Predacon Secret Police.
