Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the missing word from this Jim Halpert quote? "Because right now, this is a job. If I advance any higher, this would be my ________. And if this were my ________, I'd have to throw myself in front of a train."

Answer: career

This quote is by Jim Halpert from the "Pilot" episode of "The Office," well before he decided that he had to have at least a modest amount of ambition. The character of Jim has been used by business writers as an example of under-motivated college-educated youths in their first job, lacking direction and thus ambition.
2. What missing word completes this line? "I guess the atmosphere that I've tried to create here is that I'm a friend first and a boss second, and probably a(n) ____________ third."

Answer: entertainer

Michael Scott, on his philosophy of management. This is from the first episode, the "Pilot," and helped establish the character of Michael Scott.
3. What is the missing word, which repeats several times? "Would I ever leave this company? Look, I'm all about ________. In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my ________. But if there were somewhere else that valued ________ more highly, I'm going wherever they value ________ the most."

Answer: loyalty

This is Dwight Schrute, speaking to the camera, after finding out that another paper company was perhaps interested in hiring him. However, Jim and Pam had sent a fake resume, exaggerating Dwight's accomplishments, to that company without Dwight's knowledge. This is from Season 2, the "Halloween" episode.
4. Can you identify the missing words from this Michael Scott quote? "I am part English, Irish, German, and Scottish, sort of a virtual ______________."

Answer: United Nations

This is Michael Scott, referring to himself on the "Diversity Day" episode, the second of season 1. This is the episode where cluelessly insensitive Michael tries to teach sensitivity to the office staff by having them each attach an index card (labeled with a racial category) to their forehead, and the other staff are supposed to treat the person like the stereotype of that race.
5. What word would complete this Pam Beesly quote from Season 2? "You know what they say about a car wreck, where it's so awful you can't look away? The ________ are like a car wreck that you want to look away from but you have to stare at it because your boss is making you."

Answer: Dundies

This quote is from Pam, from the only episode that focused on the Scranton branch's often-mentioned informal awards, the Dundies. "The Dundies" was the first episode of the second season. The cheap statues awarded as Dundies reappear from time to time of course, and the opening of each episode shows Michael adjusting the position of one of his on his desk. Jan also throws one at Michael's wall-mounted "plasma TV" in the "Dinner Party" episode in season 4.
6. What is the missing word in this quote from the "Safety Training" episode? "I was _________ from the age of 4 until my 6th birthday, for not saving the excess oil from a can of tuna."

Answer: shunned

Dwight is shunning (not speaking to or acknowledging the presence of) Andy and using Jim as a go-between, leading to exchanges such as: Jim: "Dwight says that he actually doesn't know one single fact about bear attacks." Dwight: "Okay, no, Jim, tell him bears can climb faster than they can run!"

The question's quote from Dwight is spoken to the camera, and is from episode 19 of the third season.
7. What is the missing word in this quote from Darryl? "Mike gave me a list of his top 10 ________ songs. Three of them were Huey Lewis and the News, one was Tracy Chapman Fast Car and, my personal favorite, Short People."

Answer: Springsteen

Warehouse foreman Darryl alternates between finding Michael Scott amusing and finding him frustrating and, sometimes, dangerously inept. This quote has Darryl dryly mocking Michael's usual obliviousness about popular culture. It's from episode 4 of season 5, "Crime Aid."
8. The same word repeats three times in this Creed quote. What is it? "When Pam gets Michael's new _______, I get Pam's old _______. Then I'll have two _______s. Only one to go."

Answer: chair

Creed may be in a secondary role, but he is a fascinating and bizarre character. What he means by "Only one [chair] to go" is a mystery, but somehow it fits in with Creed's personality. This quote is from episode 10, season 4, "Chair Model."
9. What word is missing from both speakers' quotes? Prince Paper Company Owner: "Ah I opened this place after I came back from _________." Michael Scott: "Ooh, _________. I hear it's lovely."

Answer: Vietnam

Once again clueless, Michael assumes the rival paper company's owner means he went on vacation to Vietnam, whereas of course he actually was there during the Vietnam War. "Prince Family Paper" is episode 13 of the fifth season.
10. At the Fun Run, Pam Beesly says "A doctor won't come out to collect a check for 700 dollars. Or 500 dollars if we go with the giant check. And also, there is no such thing as a _______ doctor." What is the missing word?

Answer: rabies

In the first show of season 4, "Fun Run," which was a double program combining episodes 1 and 2, Michael decides to hold "Michael Scott's Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race For The Cure," after he runs Meredith over with his car.

His employees are upset with him, but because Meredith is in the hospital, blood tests reveal that she had been exposed to rabies. Michael then felt that he saved her life by running her over.
