Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who bought a bar in an attempt to recreate a bar from his/her youth?

Answer: Jim

While Jim was stationed in London as a correspondent, he was homesick and found a bar where intellectuals gathered and sang around a piano. Years later, while in DC, he found a bar and decided to buy it in an attempt to recreate that bar from London. It turned into a gay bar - which ended up working out, as it turned out the bar Jim frequented in London was also a gay bar.
2. On what floor of the building are the offices for most of the series?

Answer: 17

In one episode, Jim gets off the elevator saying "17th floor" and then says a department store section. In another episode, Jim said he took the stairs, and Frank replied that it was 17 flights he would have walked.
3. What type of car did Murphy (frequently) remind everyone she drove?

Answer: Porsche

In one episode, her Porsche was stolen from in front of her house so she called an emergency meeting of the neighborhood watch... which turned out to have a lot of gun-toting members. In probably the most famous episode, Socks, the Clintons' cat, was missing from the White House. It turned out Socks had climbed into Murphy's car while she was there for a luncheon.
4. Who got a case of the giggles and thought about quitting?

Answer: Jim

Connie Chung was stuck in traffic, so Jim was called upon to deliver a short news break. One of the news items was George Bush sat on a wasp while in Maine, but Murphy read it before Jim went on the air and was making fun of it. While Jim tried to deliver the news, Murphy kept doing silly things and Jim ended up having a giggle fit. Luckily, Phil and Murphy were able to get Jim to come back on the air.

Then Murphy, Frank, and Corky ended up giggling.
5. What was the name of the original fourth anchor?

Answer: Stuart Best

Stuart lasted for six episodes. For the show's 17th anniversary, Miles (who had no idea who this Stuart person was) invited him back to say 'hi' on the air. It turns out Stuart was really annoying - cleaning his ears with other people's pencils, taking his shoes off, saying "alls" instead of "all" when ending his commentary. Murphy, Jim, and Frank had banded together to get Stuart fired, but for all these years he thought it was the network that fired him, so during the anniversary show he kept going in front of the camera trying to get the network to re-hire him.
6. When Murphy was kidnapped by radical environmentalists, whose TV show did she call?

Answer: Larry King

No one believed her when she would call about having been kidnapped because she played so many pranks. She finally calls Larry King and gets on the air with him - and he too doesn't believe her. The environmentalists end up letting her escape because she was really annoying. Murphy told the three environmentalists they had a lot to learn about kidnapping.
7. When Murphy was about ready to go on maternity leave, what happened to her replacement?

Answer: Alcoholic

Hillary, an anchorwoman from Canada, was super sweet to everyone and they all fell for her. Murphy wasn't crazy about the idea of having a replacement but was the first person to believe Hillary had a drinking problem. Hillary ended up drinking too much before a show and wasn't able to take over for Murphy's maternity leave.
8. Murphy had to room with whom while snowed in during a work trip?

Answer: Jim

Murphy and Jim got the last hotel room in town when a snowstorm hit just as they were about to fly out. Jim ended up flirting with a woman at the hotel bar he went to trying to escape the awkwardness of sharing a room with Murphy.
9. When Murphy did a piece on contemporary art, she tried to show the art critics they were wrong using a painting done by whom?

Answer: Avery

Avery had done a finger painting and while Murphy was ranting, she decided to frame Avery's work and put it in a show. One of the art critics didn't like it, but the other did - and a patron ended up buying the painting when he saw several people arguing over it.
10. Who got divorced during the series?

Answer: Corky

Murphy had several lovers, but she was already divorced when the series began. Jim was always married to Doris. Miles ended up with Corky at the end. Corky married Will Forrest, so her name became Corky Sherwood-Forrest. But Will ended up trying to write the 'great American novel', which became an awful play and they just drifted apart.
