Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Julie and Caleb's wedding song?

Answer: "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Jem

Julie Cooper and Caleb Nichol got married in the first season finale "The Ties That Bind". Jem's version of the Paul McCartney song "Maybe I'm Amazed" played while they danced their first dance as a married couple. Seth and Summer also danced to it, as did Ryan and Marissa, before Ryan left to go back to Chino with Theresa.
2. According to Seth, what song is played at the end of every boy's Bar Mitzvah celebration?

Answer: "That's What Friends Are For"

In the third season episode "The Chrismukkah Bar Mitz-vahkka", the gang held an honorary Bar Mitzvah for Ryan, to raise money for knee surgery for Johnny. It brought up a lot of memories of Seth's Bar Mitzvah and how nobody attended because Luke's birthday party had been on the same day.

When Seth was telling Ryan what to expect at the Bar Mitzvah, he told them that as soon as he heard "That's What Friends Are For", he'd know that it was over. When the song played, they all stood together with their arms over each others shoulders and danced together.

The Dionne Warwick version of the song was used.
3. In the third season, Ryan and Marissa decided to choose "their song" by turning on the radio and using whatever song was playing. The first song they heard was a hardcore rap song, so they turned the dial and found a more suitable one; what was it?

Answer: "Forever Young" by Youth Group

This occurred at the end of the episode "The Last Waltz". Marissa had just begun attending Newport Union High School, having been expelled from Harbor because of the controversy that had occurred when she shot Trey to save Ryan's life. Ryan began to get jealous of Marissa's new friends, but Marissa made him happy by attending Harbor's school dance.

She got kicked out by the Dean, but was waiting in front of the pool house for Ryan when he got home. That was when they decided to choose their song.

The episode ended with them dancing in the Cohen's backyard, as well as a shot of Seth and Summer dancing at the school dance.
4. Which of these songs was played at Ryan's 18th birthday party at The Bait Shop?

Answer: "Waiting For a Girl Like You" by Cobra Verde

Any good "O.C." fan knows that Journey is Ryan's favourite band. For his birthday in the third season episode "The Journey", Seth said that since he couldn't get the real Journey to play, he got a "Journey cover band". As Ryan and Sadie danced to the song, she said "You know this is a Foreigner song, right?" and he replied "Yep". Seth later said he knew it too, and didn't want a Journey cover band because "Journey sucks".
5. What was the song that playing over the end montage of the episode "The Rainy Day Women", when Seth and Summer shared their "Spiderman kiss"?

Answer: "Champagne Supernova" by Matt Pond PA

In this second season episode, it had been raining all weekend in Orange County. This was the episode in which Summer admitted she still loved Seth, after having dated Zach throughout the first part of the season. Seth had gone up on the roof to fix the satellite dish, wearing a Spiderman mask because it was the only kind of rain gear he had, and ended up slipping off the roof and hanging down from it. Summer was rushing to his house to tell him she was in love with him, and found him like that. She pulled down his masked and kissed him in the rain, mimicking the scene from the "Spiderman" movie.
6. To which of these songs did Seth and Summer slow dance in his bedroom?

Answer: "Wonderwall" by Ryan Adams

This occurred at the end of the first season episode "The Heartbreak". Earlier in the episode, Seth and Summer had slept together for the first time, and things hadn't gone as well as they would have liked. At the end of the episode, Summer admitted to Seth that she had been a virgin too, and he said he was sad that they'd just completely rushed through a big moment in their lives and they should slow down.

He put on Ryan Adam's cover of the Oasis song "Wonderwall" and asked Summer to dance, saying "Come on, I'm sweeping you off your feet".

As they danced, she said "The sad thing is, you kind of are."
7. Which song played at the end of the second season, as Seth and Summer danced at the prom, and Caleb died in the pool?

Answer: "Fix You" by Coldplay

In the second last episode of the second season, "The O.Sea", Seth and Summer finally completely got back together. Seth and Zach had fought over which of them would take Summer to the prom, and which would go to meet George Lucas to talk about their graphic novel. Seth ended up meeting George Lucas, but ran out on the meeting to go see Summer, whereas Zach decided that the graphic novel was more important to him and that Summer would rather be with Seth anyways.

After Summer was named prom queen, Seth rushed up to her and they kissed on stage, and then danced to "Fix You". Meanwhile, back at the Cooper-Nichol household, Julie had been planning on poisoning Caleb with his heart medication so that he wouldn't not be able to divorce her days before she would be entitled to any money in the settlement.

She lost her nerve and decided that she still cared about him too much. When she went inside to fix a new drink for him, he had a heart attack and died in the pool.
8. Which of these TV theme songs did Summer and Anna sing together?

Answer: "Thank You For Being a Friend"

In the first season, amidst their love triangle with Seth, Summer and Anna discovered they were both big fans of the show "The Golden Girls". While in the bathroom at the Rooney concert in the episode "The Third Wheel", Summer was humming the song and Anna heard her, and they both started singing together.
9. What song did Julie and Kaitlin sing while trapped in an ice cream shop after the earthquake at the end of the fourth season?

Answer: "Night Moves" by Bob Seger

In the episode, aptly named "The Night Moves", Julie explained to the boy who was trapped with them that she used to sing "Night Moves" to Kaitlin when she was a baby to calm her down. He said that that was pretty inappropriate, "given the sexual connotation of the song", but Julie defended herself, saying "Well it was the only song I knew the words to... that, and 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'".
10. One of the most used songs in "The O.C.", this was played in the third season finale, as Ryan carried Marissa away from the car crash and she died in his arms.

Answer: "Hallelujah" by Imogen Heap

This heartbreaking scene was at the end of the episode, "The Graduates". Ryan was driving Marissa to the airport because she was planning on going to work on a boat with her dad for a year. On the way, an angry Volchok chased them down and ran Ryan's car off the road. Marissa was seriously injured in the crash, and Ryan had to carry her away from the wreck before it burst into flames.

She mumbled a few words to him before she died and he continued to carry her away, flashing back to moments earlier in the series, like when she was passed out drunk on her doorstep and he carried her to the pool house, or when she overdosed in Tijuana and he had to carry her to safety then.

The Jeff Buckley version of the song has been used in the series as well, notably at the end of the first season, in "The Ties That Bind", as Ryan left Marissa to go back to Chino, and Seth sailed away in his boat, leaving Summer behind.
