Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Jonny Quest was created by cartoon artist Doug Wildey. However Hanna-Barbera did not wish to give Wildey a "created by" credit on the cartoon's end credits. How did Wildey and Hanna-Barbera compromise on this?

Answer: they agreed to the wording "based on an idea created by Doug Wildey"

Wildey settled for the "based on an idea created by" wording. Kind of surprising when you consider how amazing this cartoon was.
2. In "Calcutta Adventure", the Quests meet Hadji, who is orphaned and living on the streets. How does this meeting come about?

Answer: Hadji saves Dr. Quest's life

Hadji saved Dr. Quest by using a basket lid to halt a dagger that was aimed at the doctor. Jonny, thinking Hadji was the attacker, tackled Hadji, but Hadji turned the tables and put a judo move on Jonny! They became instant friends from that point!
3. Jonny's dog Bandit is usually on hand for a laugh or two. True or False: Bandit, like every other Quest character, was designed by Doug Wildey.

Answer: false

According to an interview with Wildey, it was actually animator Dick Bickenbach who designed Bandit.
4. In "Attack of the Tree People", Jonny and Hadji are kidnapped by a couple of shady characters. Prior to holding the Quests for ransom, what had been the kidnappers' occupation?

Answer: ivory poachers

Before the bad guys became ivory poachers, they had also been involved in selling illegal firearms (gun running).
5. In "The Curse of Anubis" Dr. Quest's enemy attempted to frame the doctor for the theft of a rare Egyptian artifact. What was unusual about the timing of this plot?

Answer: the artifact was stolen before Dr. Quest arrived in Egypt

This one has always puzzled me; I never could understand how the villain expected to pull off framing Dr. Quest since the Quests were still in America at the time of the theft.
6. Dr. Zin, the elusive nemesis of the Quests, shows up to cause more trouble in "Riddle of the Gold", this time by counterfeiting bars of gold. Which "element" is used as the fake gold?

Answer: xanium

Zinc, iridium, and tungsten are all naturally occurring elements. I suppose xanium occurs naturally in the minds of cartoon writers.
7. What type of jewel does Hadji wear in his turban?

Answer: ruby

This was one multi-tasking ruby! On different occasions, Hadji used the jewel to signal a plane and to hypnotize a criminal.
8. The Quest team has adventures all over the world. Which of these is NOT the setting of one of the 26 original "Jonny Quest" episodes?

Answer: Athens

Greece must have been short on science fiction inspiration. Dr. Quest's compound was based in Florida, which was the setting for "Pirates from Below". The Quests encounter real and fake Yeti in Nepal ("Monster in the Monastery"). One of my favorites, "Werewolf of the Timberlands", was set amongst the mysterious forests of Quebec.
9. Jonny's adventures were broadcast during a time in which portraying villains with specific ethnic characteristics or political leanings was normal. In which of the following episodes did the Quests have to escape from the clutches of a former Nazi war criminal?

Answer: "The Devil's Tower"

This episode has a nail-biting escape scene. Spoiler: the villain goes down in flames!
10. Race Bannon performs double duty as bodyguard and tutor. In which episode do we discover the names of Race's parents?

Answer: "Double Danger"

Dr. Zin sends a body double to take Race's place in the Quest camp. The impostor must pass muster to avoid detection, so he learns every detail of Race's life, including that his folks were named John and Sarah.
11. Dr. Quest receives a frantic call for help from a colleague's wife in "Pursuit of the Po-Ho". Why is Dr. Quest's help specifically sought?

Answer: Dr. Quest speaks the language of the natives who kidnapped his colleague

Is there anything Dr. Quest doesn't know? He can speak the Po-Ho language, and used it over a loud speaker to frighten the Po-Ho warriors. It only worked temporarily.
12. Jade is a mysterious female character who shows up from time to time. It is implied that she is the former love interest of whom?

Answer: Race Bannon

Jade appeared in two episodes and was voiced by Cathy Lewis.
13. Corbin was one of Zin's henchmen, hired to steal secrets from Dr. Quest.

Answer: false

Corbin was with Intelligence One. He appears in two episodes.
14. No matter the occasion, Jonny always wears the same outfit. What color is his shirt?

Answer: black

A classic black turtleneck never goes out of style! In the 1996 "Real Adventures" re-boot, Jonny favors black t-shirts.
15. Jonny's mother is never seen, and is only mentioned once. Why is this?

Answer: She died several years before any of the events in the series occur

Jonny's mother died when he was very young. Agent Corbin divulges this info to a colleague in the pilot episode "The Mystery of the Lizard Men".
