Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of this season, teams were picked in which of the following ways?

Answer: By their eldest members

On Day 1, sixteen Americans arrived at Ko Tarutao, an island in the Andaman Sea in Southern Taiwan, where they would commence the fifth season of "Survivor" with the aim to outwit, outplay, and outlast their competitors. Arriving on two separate boats, one containing men and the other containing women, the tribe members were surprised to find that their tribes would be selected in an unorthodox way.

They introduced themselves, their ages, and their jobs before they were told that the two oldest Survivors, Jake and Jan, would pick their tribe's colours (and, in doing that, their beach and name).

They also needed to select members of their tribes, alternating between men and women.
2. Which of the two tribes, according to Jeff, would be associated with the sunset?

Answer: Sook Jai

Once teams were chosen on Day 1, teams were able to hop into their boats and head onward to their beaches.
The red team, Chuay Gahn, would have a beach taking advantage of the sunrise; the name of their tribe meant 'to help each other' in Thai. It also featured, in alphabetical order, Brian, Clay, Ghandia, Helen, Jan, John, Tanya, and Ted.
The purple team, Sook Jai, would be associated with sunset as that would be when their beach would see the sun. Consisting of Erin, Jake, Jed, Ken, Penny, Shii Ann, Stephanie, and Robb, this team ended up containing most of the younger castaways. Their team name was Thai for 'happy heart'.
3. On Day 7, teams competed for a pair of Red Berets during the Reward Challenge. How many Sook Jai members were disqualified from the competition?

Answer: Four

During this task, teams needed to balance across bamboo paths and beams connecting their boats to a platform containing baskets. They were required to carry baskets from the far boat and back to their own; the first team to ten would win. If they fell off, they would lose whatever they were holding and need to start over.

There was also a black-marked space where teams could battle and push each other into the water. If castaways battled outside this space they would be disqualified and one of their baskets would be passed to the other team. Four members of Sook Jai fought outside the black marker: Jed, Ken, Robb, and Stephanie.

As a result, Chuay Gahn won their first challenge. This challenge is notable for an instance in which Robb grabbed Clay by the throat to throw him into the water.
4. On Day 14, before their Reward Challenge, the castaways were given the opportunity to switch tribes. Did anyone take the mutinous offer?

Answer: No

Heading into an auction Reward Challenge with $1,000, the two tribes were shocked to discover that they would have the opportunity to switch onto the opposing side, permanently, should they so choose. Despite the offer being valid of sixty seconds, the tribe members from both sides decided to stick with their original teams. Following this event, the tribes engaged in the auction for this season.

Items included a burger and fries (with the fixin's), a pitcher of lime-aid, spaghetti, meatballs, and garlic bread, a hot fudge sundae (as a mystery item), baked grubs (as a mystery item), and a bowl of nachos with a pitcher of margaritas.
5. On Day 19, teams moved to a single beach. How many tribe members remained in the game at this point?

Answer: Ten

On Day 19, both teams received body paint in their tree mail and, expecting a merge, adorned themselves in different colours for the sake of the possible upcoming reward challenge. Upon uniting on a new beach, Jeff informed Chuay Gahn and Sook Jai that they would be able to spend some time getting to know each other, matching them up with their respective body paints. Once they paired off they would be able to take a basket at random, some containing special instructions, others containing fresh fruit, and head along the beach to talk.

Some members went off to visit the opposition's camps and, when they met back up, everyone moved to the Chuay Gahn beach for a feast. Jeff made it very clear that they would be, in a sense, starting over, but it wasn't until they went to their Immunity Challenge the next day that they realized they were not actually a merged tribe.
6. When the two tribes merged, they took on what new name?

Answer: Chuay Jai

Although the teams started living on the same beach back on Day 19, the teams never actually merged together into one tribe until Day 25 with three Sook Jai members and five from the original Chuay Gahn tribe. Before this point, the group had already taken on the new name Chuay Jai by combining words from each original tribe name. They donned gold buffs.
This was the latest time thus far (in "Survivor") at which teams merged. Normally this event would occur after six tribe members had been eliminated. This would also be the first time a non-merged tribe member would be part of the jury.
7. During the entire season of "Survivor: Thailand", which castaway received the most votes against them in Tribal Council?

Answer: Shii Ann

Although Shii Ann did not receive the most votes in "Survivor" history thus far (Clarence from "Africa" received twelve in much less time and Jerri from "The Outback" received the same total) she did take the most from castaways in "Thailand". Oddly, she happened to be the only castaway from "Thailand" to appear in "Survivor: All Stars".
Shii Ann received three votes on Day 9, two on Day 15, one on Day 18, and four (to eliminate her) on Day 21. She was voted for at least once during every Tribal Council she attended.
8. Which of these rewards was not given out during this season?

Answer: Waterproof matches

Surprisingly while there were a number of memorable rewards in "Survivor: Thailand", the season contained the fewest Reward Challenges of any thus far because the tribes received no rewards when they started sharing the same beach. The hot fudge sundae was presented during the Survivor Auction on Day 13 and was claimed by Sook Jai for $200. Videos from home were given when the tribes merged on Day 25. Brian ended up winning his video in full after a series of team challenges and a final puzzle.

The elephant trek and subsequent lunch were the reward on Day 28 at the end of a relay. Brian won the challenge and brought Clay along. Sook Jai received a lantern on Day 4 but none of the teams received a pack of matches.
9. For their final Reward Challenge on Day 35, one castaway won which of the following?

Answer: Chevy Trailblazer

On Day 35, on the way to their Reward Challenge, the final five tribemates were picked up by Jeff in a Chevy Trailblazer SUV, the major reward for this challenge and the biggest non-monetary reward of the season. The winner of the task would also receive a Thai spa treatment/massage and some Thai cuisine. To complete the challenge, the competitors needed to run through a series of tasks collecting eight letter panels to spell out 'ROAD TRIP'.

Although Brian discovered the word first he misspelled the answer, giving Ted the chance to claim a victory.

When asked to bring a fellow tribe member along for the spa treatment, he chose Helen. Ted would be eliminated at the next Tribal Council ceremony.
10. In the final Tribal Council, which of these Survivors won the million dollar prize?

Answer: Brian

By Day 39, Helen had been eliminated (on Day 37) and Jan had been eliminated (on Day 38) to leave Clay and Brian resting in the final two. After tallying the votes, Jeff announced that Brian was the winner of "Survivor: Thailand" by a vote of four to three. Brian's votes came from the three jury members of Chuay Gahn (Jan, Helen, and Ted) as well as Jake while Clay received votes from Erin, Ken, and Penny.
Winning the title of Sole Survivor, Brian also took home the million dollar prize and a new Chevy Trailblazer. He was the fifth winner of "Survivor" overall.
