She does this to try to prove that it is a selfless good deed. She knows the money will help PBS, but since she doesn't like PBS the deed is not selfish on her behalf. The selfless good deed backfires because Phoebe's pledge tipped the total pledges over the previous year's total and helped Joey get some on-air time at the telethon.

Ross is waiting for a call from Emily when Rachel turns up at his apartment, saying they are late for "Stella". Ross is confused, as they don't know anyone named Stella, so Rachel explains that Stella's "getting her groove back in, like, twenty minutes." They skip the movie because Emily calls, and on advice from Rachel, Ross tells Emily he is willing to sacrifice being friends with Rachel in order to get Emily to move to New York.

Sneaky music is played in the background as we see Chandler leaving the closet and sitting on the lounge at Central Perk. Monica then exits the closet and joins him on the lounge and says, "Well I've never done that before!"
