Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which team arrived in Palmero, Italy the earliest in Leg 5?

Answer: BJ and Tyler

In the beginning of Leg 5, teams were told to leave Germany and find their clue outside the Teatro Massimo opera house in Palmero, Italy (on the island of Sicily). Teams needed to take a flight from Munich to Rome, then another flight to Sicily. Using a computer, BJ and Tyler were able to book the earliest flight and they got ahead of the others. Lake and Michelle, who also attempted to do this, ended up falling back to the last flight.

The clue at the Teatro Massimo told teams to take a marked car and drive to the town of Castellammare del Golfo.
2. Was Laundry the Detour task in Leg 5 that was participated in the most?

Answer: yes

When teams arrived in Castellammare del Golfo, they found their Detour. In 'Foundry', teams needed to carry a 110-pound church bell into the back of a truck and drive it to a marked area. Then, they had to carry it up a bunch of stairs to a church to receive their clue. Joseph and Monica and Ray and Yolanda completed this task.

In 'Laundry', teams needed to search 2,400 pieces of hanging laundry in a small Sicilian street to find one of sixteen marked pieces. Once they found this, they could receive their clue.
3. Which team used the Yield in Leg 5?

Answer: Lake and Michelle

After the Detour, teams needed to drive to an archaeological zone, then hike uphill one mile to the Teatro di Segesta. Once at the top, teams had the choice to use the first of two Yields in the race. Lake and Michelle managed to head to the Pit Stop before this and thought that they were in last place.

When they saw Dani and Danielle following them, they used the Yield to prevent themselves from arriving last.
4. How many spare statue pieces were there in the Road Block in Leg 5?

Answer: Two

In the Road Block at the Teatro di Segesta, teams needed to choose one member who could successfully build a Greek statue. When the statue was complete, they could have someone inspect it and claim their clue. Many teams did not realize that there were two left-over pieces that weren't needed to complete the puzzle and spent more time. Tyler, Eric, Monica, Fran, Lori, Lake, Ray, and Dani completed this task.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race during Leg 5?

Answer: Dani and Danielle

After the Road Block, teams needed to run one mile to the nearby Tempio di Segesta to the Pit Stop. BJ and Tyler arrived first and won a Digital Imaging Package from Duracell. They also managed to knock Eric and Jeremy off of the first-place position that they held for many legs.

In the end, Danielle and Dani could not overcome the Yield and they were beaten in a footrace to the Pit Stop by Ray and Yolanda.
6. How many heads surrounded the Anfiteatro Romano?

Answer: Forty-one

In the beginning of Leg 6, teams needed to travel to the city of Catania, nearly 135 miles across Sicily. Once there, teams needed to find the Anfiteatro Romano, the ruins of an old amphitheater. Teams arriving at the ruins early needed to wait until 8:30 before the gates would open.

The next clue told teams to count the heads on the fenceposts around the amphitheater. They then needed to tell a man on the grounds how many heads there were to get their clue.
7. How many kilograms of fish needed to be sold in the 'Little Fish' Detour task of Leg 6?

Answer: 4

In 'Little Fish', teams needed to go to a nearby market in order to find a street vendor. Once there, teams had to sell 4 kilos of a small Sicilian fish (called Trillia) in order to receive their next clue. The only team to complete this task was Fran and Barry, and they finished quite fast compared to other teams.
8. Who did not complete the 'Big Fish' Detour of Leg 6?

Answer: Fran and Barry

In 'Little Fish', teams needed to travel to a nearby market and find a local vendor. They then needed to carry a 32-pound swordfish 1/3 mile to another market to receive their next clue. Jeremy and Eric, BJ and Tyler, Joseph and Monica, Lake and Michelle, Ray and Yolanda, and David and Lori completed this task.
After the Detour, teams needed to drive south to Siracusa to find their clue at the Ponte Umberto.
9. During the Road Block in Leg 6, teams had to use Kayaks.

Answer: True

At the Road Block at Ponte Umberto in Siracusa, teams needed to choose one member to paddle a kayak and play Kayak Polo. To receive their next clue, teams needed to score one goal.
After this, teams needed to make their way on foot to the Pit Stop at the Fonte Aretusa.
10. Who was eliminated in Leg 6 of the race?

Answer: David and Lori

Teams arriving at the Pit Stop had to run through a band of musicians. The first team to arrive at the Fonte Aretusa was Eric and Jeremy, and because of this, they won a cruise to the Caribbean. The last team to arrive, David and Lori, were eliminated from the race after trailing for most of the leg.
