Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first episode, "Mr. Bean", Mr. Bean takes a university exam. Which of the following IS NOT a reason Mr. Bean failed the test?

Answer: The person he is copying off of has bad handwriting

I witnessed a similar occurrence when I took the SATs in high school. I watched a student attempt to copy off another, then panic when she realized that each person in the room had a different test (the number of questions in the section didn't match, and the person copying answers still had questions left when the person honestly taking the test finished).

The scene was not unlike Bean's--quick erasing, rapid fire answering, and attempts to keep writing after "Time" had been called.
2. In "The Return of Mr. Bean", he takes himself out for a birthday dinner and orders the least expensive item on the menu, steak tartare. However, when he gets it, he does not like it. What is wrong with it?

Answer: The steak is served raw

The E. Coli scare has pretty much ruined it for this traditional dish, seasoned raw ground beef. I used to like it, but haven't tried it in years.

Mr. Bean has no idea what "steak tartare" is and initially tries to act as though he enjoys it, while hiding pieces in the sugar bowl, a lady's handbag, and down a musician's pants. He later confronts a waiter about it, complaining angrily, and is brought a fresh new plate of raw beef.
3. In "Mr. Bean Goes to Town", how does he identify the camera thief from the police lineup?

Answer: Covers his head with a wastebasket, stabs him with a pencil, and listens to how he says "Ow"

This is how Bean caught the thief--dumped a wastebasket on his head, then tackled him and stabbed him with a pencil until the police came. So, to identify him in the lineup, he recreated the environment.
4. In "Merry Christmas, Mr. Bean", which of the following DOES NOT appear during Mr. Bean's rendition of the Nativity scene?

Answer: A lion

One of my all-time favorite "Mr. Bean" scenes. Mr. Bean finds the department store Nativity scene and has a little fun with it. He starts out with the cow mooing and donkey braying, then adds sheep, a sheep dog, a moving van, a brigade of soldiers, a robot, a tank, and a dinosaur. Finally, the baby Jesus is carried to safety by a helicopter with a giant magnet before the clerk arrives with a policeman (fortunately for Bean, a plastic policeman).
5. In "Merry Christmas Mr. Bean", what gift for his girlfriend is in the ring box?

Answer: A picture hook

A classic scene. The girlfriend walked Bean over to a jewelry store window and pointed excitedly at the ring in the display, and Bean misunderstood her as pointing at the drawing of the man giving the girl the ring, so he bought the picture and wrapped it separately. The hook for hanging it on the wall was in the ring box.
6. In "Mr. Bean in Room 426", what does Mr. Bean give the porter when he holds out his hand for a tip?

Answer: A cough drop

The porter clears his throat "Ahem" and holds out his hand when Bean doesn't tip him immediately. Bean "mistakes" the gesture as a sore throat. On the other hand, I have often wanted to do the same thing when someone is overly insistent for a tip.
7. In "Back to School, Mr. Bean", how is Mr. Bean finally able to draw the nude in the art class?

Answer: He fashions a bikini out of clay and puts it on the model

He cannot stand to look at the nude body, but he can get the clay to fit perfectly to her body (looking at, and I would assume, touching, the nude model in the process). No, try not to think too much while watching Mr. Bean!
8. In "Tee Off, Mr. Bean", what did Mr. Bean write down as his score on the par 2 second hole at the miniature golf course "Crazy Golf"?

Answer: 3,427

In this great segment, Mr. Bean accidentally hits his ball off the green. When he goes to pick up the ball to put it back, the course operator indicates that is against the rules. He then proceeds to hit the ball off the course completely, down the street, into a bus, down a sewer grate, into a garbage can (which is then dumped into a garbage truck), into a lady's grocery bag, onto a child's ice cream cone... you get the idea. Later that night, as the course is closing, he finally cuts a section of grass around the ball, hitches a ride back to the course, carries the whole section back to the green, places it next to the hole, and hits the ball into the hole, uttering a triumphant "Yes!".

He then writes down the score--3,427 strokes--on the card.
9. In "Good Night, Mr. Bean", why is Mr. Bean at the hospital?

Answer: He got his hand stuck in a teakettle

A fantastic scene that shows Mr. Bean's inherent selfishness perhaps better than any other. While in line at the hospital, he gooses a man two places front of him, causing a fight to break out between the man and a person directly behind him, and resulting in Mr. Bean going to the front of the line.

He takes a chair from an old man with a cane, switches his number with a lady in a body cast, and tries all sorts of other ways to subvert the system. His interactions with the lady in the body cast, in particular, are priceless.
10. The choir sings at the beginning of each episode "Ecce Homo Qui Es Faba". What does this roughly translate to?

Answer: Behold the Man Who is a Bean

The whole text is "Ecce Homo Qui Es Faba. Vale Homo Qui Es Faba" (the rest translating to "Farewell the man who is a Bean"). The instrumentation was originally composed as serious choral music.
