Answer: Miaka

In the beginning, Yui and Miaka, two girls in the process of preparing for their high school entrance exams, stumble upon a book called "The Universe of the Four Gods." Yui reads the first page, and soon after, both the girls are sucked into the book and end up in the middle of the desert, and the journey begins.

Answer: Tasuki

Tasuki left his clan for a while, and when he returned, the previous boss had been killed and he had left the clan in Tasuki's hands. Soon after, Miaka shows up looking for this "Tasuki." Unwilling to give up the leadership he had just received, he tells Miaka that Tasuki had been the previous boss, and that he was dead.

However, later after saving Miaka, Tamahome, and Hotohori from skeletal zombies, he reveals who he really is.

Answer: Soi

Soi, one of the Seiryuu warriors, is very much in love with Nakago. In an attempt to keep Tamahome occupied, she makes it so that Tamahome sees her as Miaka, and tries to seduce him. Of course, being the good boy that Tamahome is, he does not fall for it. In the end, Soi steps in front of a flying sword in order to save Nakago and is killed.

Answer: Tatara

We meet Tatara later on in the series. He looks young, but on the inside is very old. He was the Byakko priestess's - Suzuno Osugi's - protector. They fell in love with each other but were separated when Suzuno went back to her own world. Tatara dies not long after we meet him, but that's not the last we see of him. Back in the real world we see Tetsuya and Keisuke visit the home of Suzuno, who was in the last breaths of her life.

She dies, and outside Tatara, as a ghost, is waiting for her. Suzuno and Tatara are young and happy again. Quite a heart-wrenching scene if I do say so.

Answer: Mitsukake

Mitsukake has strong healing powers due to his power from Suzaku. Years ago, when Mitsukake was in a far away village treating a patient, Shouka - his lover - died of a mysterious illness, and Mitsukake gave up being a doctor because he wasn't able to save the one he loved the most, so he wondered what the point was. Once Mitsukake finds out that "Shouka" is back, and after seeing her and realizing she's been possessed by a sickness demon, he knows what he must do and so does Shouka.

She asks him to use his "Great Healing Power" on her to save Miaka and the rest of the village.

Answer: Houki

After Nuriko is killed by Ashitare and they get the Shinzaho, the group decides to return to Konan. In their absence, Hotohori married a woman named Houki who looks very much like Nuriko. In fact, in the second OAV, Sakamoto Chika, the voice actor of Nuriko, also voices Houki.

Answer: Ashitare

Ashitare was sent out with orders from Nakago to kill Miaka, but his first two attempts failed because of Nuriko. During one of the attempts, Nuriko uses a flare to defend them and burns Ashitare. Because of a second failed attempt, he is severely beat. The third time he is sent out, he has a different target in mind: Nuriko, because of what he did to him.

Answer: Takiko Okuda

Takiko's story is indeed a tragic one. Takiko became the Genbu priestess in "The Universe of the Four Gods," written by her father Einosuke Okuda. She summons the beast god and makes her first two wishes: to protect Hokkan from future attacks and to return home.

They are both granted, but Genbu is devouring her from the inside. Being able to do nothing about it, her father kills her to stop the pain, and then kills himself. P.S. If you want to learn more about Takiko's story, Yu Watase is in the process of writing her story, called "Genbu Kaiden." It can be found in almost any bookstore with a manga shelf.

It's an amazing story. (USA - I don't know about other countries)

Answer: Chiriko

The first "Chiriko" we see is not actually the real Suzaku warrior, but a Seiryuu warrior impersonating him. During their summoning of Suzaku, he attacks him with his flute, but his sounds are countered with a grass whistle, being played by the real Chiriko.

The fake Chiriko happens to be someone by the name of Amiboshi, and after he flees from the summoning ceremony, falls into a river and is presumed to be dead, but he is rescued by a family whose son had died, and is renamed Kai-ka. Amiboshi - or Kai-ka - end up good friends.

Answer: Toki

We first meet Toki later in the series when Miaka's brother, Keisuke, and his friend, Tetsuya, begin to investigate the history behind the book. He tells the two of the book's tragic past and later becomes a believer in its magic when he sees Suzuno reunited with Tatara after she has passed away.

The next appearance he makes is in the OAV series, when Miaka and her friends visit Suzuno's grave.
